I am a full time teacher and have an online tutoring platform. I am looking for math teachers for the platform as we are currently at capacity. This is a way to supplement your income doing what you are best at. We do all the leg work, you just show up and shine your light. If interested, email me at aimee.buckley@study.help
For anyone using Khan Academy and Canvas I made a free application built on a Google Spreadsheet that reads in Khan Academy CSV files and sends the scores to the Canvas gradebook. Demo video below and link to site. Hope it helps someone! The setup takes a bit but it has made grading Khan exercises so much easier and quicker.

Put kids into groups of 3 or 4. Give them a deck of cards. They need to create a 5x5 grid where every row and every column adds up to 31. Aces are 11 and face cards are 10. They can choose whichever cards they want from the deck. It's great to talk about their different strategies since there isn't one right answer. If you look up 31-derful, you can probably find the directions.
I just heard of this recently! Have it in the works for a team building activity later this year.
Let them play a few rounds of 24 to allow them some socialization and math review.

Maybe have them do an escape room activity. It could focus on 5th grade skills or maybe have them make a pinwheel and on each point of the pinwheel you can have them share something about themselves or summer or a goal for the new school year.
1-100. It’s a group work activity where students take turns circling the numbers from 1 to 100 in order. It’s from Sara Van Der Werf.
We did it today! And every year I’m so impressed with the students and this activity all over again! Hope you love it also!
I have my kids work on a challenge problem (Fawn Nguyen has some great ones on her website). I figure many other teachers are doing policies & procedures, so let’s start with some actual math. We might also do 24 cards, as another teacher mentioned, and/or Estimation 180 (Andrew Stadel).
