Careful w counter offers. You wanted to leave for a reason. Know that, even if you get better pay - any issues that compelled you to leave is still going to be there.
If you can work through that, then, you should do a few things.
1) Research your avg wage (siftly study or Glassdoor is a good measure)
2) if you’re being offered around market rate, gun for that extra 10-20%. If you’re under, gun for higher. It’s not a % game.
3) Be prepared to be leave with no counter offer if they can’t give you what you want
Honestly, you’ll want to assess why you’re leaving in the first place because the grass is always greener.
Oh. In that case.. Steps 1 & 2 still apply. Then, make the business case. People always ask for 10-20% padding room to land in the middle.
If they can’t, but you think it’s fair - take it! If they give you the full 20%.. well fuck, buy me a drink!
Sorry, AD1, I should’ve been more clear. I meant a counter offer to the agency that offered the role and negotiating for a higher salary.
