What’s the best route to getting to Partner? Boomerang or loyalty/longevity?

Also curious if people get hired as Partners from outside the firm or if you have to be an SM in your firm first?

From what I’ve seen and been told definitely boomerang if you’re not MBB/T2. Others have such slow progression.

like

Yes, you can hired as a DEP (direct entry partner), but it’s not easy and the success rate is mixed. Best route is longevity (that being said, I was a DEP and I have no regrets…but most of the other DEPs who were hired when I was didn’t last).

like

I think boomerang is the best route, but coming in before partner. From what I’ve seen - start as a consultant, go into industry for about 8-10 years, come back for a year or two before making partner.

That being said the fastest route, if you can make it, is staying and grinding. I think boomerangs would be “average” pace at best. The quickest, albeit very few, is longevity.

Anyone go from SaaS / licensing sales to services (strategy & implementation) sales?

I'm thinking of moving from large cap tech to large cap consultancy firm to help build the resume and round out my experience. I enjoy and do well in licensing, but I'm fairly young in my career (<6 years) and received a great offer to make the move.

Big fan of the org and team I'll be joining as well.

Thanks!!

Senior attorneys at v100, how common is it for attorneys who start at small firms to lateral to biglaw? Have you worked with any? Conventional wisdom is always that if you don’t start there it’s hard to “trade up”. My coworker and I just did it to two different great v30 firms, and I’m wondering if it’s really that uncommon? Just out of curiosity. We’re not special counsel with special niche skills or anything, just associates. Pitfalls to beware? Positives?

I have an interview tomorrow to work at a fintech startup. I'm slightly worried as I'm not sure what it'll be like working While they use functional programming which I enjoy, I'm concerned about how much pressure I'll be under.

What is it like working at a fintech company? Is the salary at a fintech company typically higher than other tech jobs? It'll be higher than gamedev, but just wanted to learn about whether the pressure will be worth it eventually etc.

I love consulting and have financial safety doing what I do today but I sure do miss the adulation, applause and life-energy the stage brought me. It was just…so adrenaline inducing.

No, career pivot is not an option. Prepping myself for a mid-life crisis in a few years. Already off all kinds of social media because it hurts to see all the mediocre people getting famous (Sorry for the hubris).
