If you can get it, sure. But it always hurts my soul when PhDs go into consulting
When you're on a visa you can't be too picky.

Its like Rolex....everyone thinks they amazing....not realizing that 97% of the time a Timex will do fine
To be fair, wearing a Rolex isn’t about telling time any more. It’s either a status symbol, an heirloom, or you’re into watches.
I get your point, just sayin’

People with your skillsets are highly valued at tech firms. Don’t limit yourself to consulting.
This is a very good point. My practice works a lot with tech firms so I have the opportunity to indirectly evaluate various organizations' work culture and capabilities, and further down the line make an informed decision. Moving away from KPMG to an unknown firm, not sure if I will have this opportunity anymore, hence I was asking this group their thoughts and insights into the ML capabilities and type of work done by MBB firms.
Thank you so much everyone, this has been a success and your insights will really put me in an advantageous position to ask the right questions and make the correct decision both for me and for my prospective employer. The value this bowl adds, and the perspective of people here is absolutely amazing! 💯
May I ask what the curriculum of your ML program consists? I see a lot of Masters in Data Science from every school but wonder if they cover enough breadth. I’ve had some experience in ML (mostly regression) and want to learn more. Thanks!

Nope .. becoming ppt monkey 🐒 is trash work for someone with your skillset. However if the role provides an opportunity to use your Data strategy + ML skillset + biz development then you are golden.
Correction: based on what Deloitte 2 is mentioning below, they may have a solid capability in the Data Science space, maybe I'm being interviewing with the wrong group. I will inquire with my recruiter. So apologies for misstasting above they don't have a mature practice.

Don't...
Yes this is what concerns me the most. At KPMG we do actual hands-on design and implementations of ML solutions. This is something I need to keep in mind and ask the right questions throughout the interviews so I can make an informed decision based on tangible data.
Both of those firms have Data Science/ML arms. Check that out.
This is very helpful, I need to do a bit of additional digging. Maybe they are not interviewing me for the right technical role.
Research Quantumblack, our arm for Data Science in the Firm. We are doing plenty of cool technical stuff, including open source, there (e.g. Kedro), the culture is a mix between classical consulting and tech and we have ML engineer roles. Lots of smart people from top eng schools and exposure to a variety of business problems.
BCG Platinion, and McKinsey Quantum Black is where you would fit in.
Correction-BCG Gamma not Platinion
Love how some ppl are saying don’t do it, but OP is already working at KPMG. OP I’d say it depends on your goals…MBB brand on your resume opens many doors and as stated above they all have data science functions that should be comparable to KPMG, and if not then it means you probably have the ability to build out the practice yourself and own it which could be a fun challenge in of itself. As far as pay goes, I almost guarantee you MBB will pay more then KPMG but recommend you check for yourself. No harm in applying to see what the opportunity is right?
Which country are you from?
Someone with your background and a couple of years at one of these firms could literally do anything
You’ll get paid more than you do at KPMG (all things equal) with better benefits.
