What's the biggest lie you know we tell in insurance? I think for me, it has to be, "we're here to help people."

I think when it comes to claims, we help People (unless you work for an awful carrier). we do a yearly training where they tell us "it's not your wallet, just find the coverage and pay what's owe'd"

In sales we are told to stop thinking with our wallet.

I spent over two decades in the insurance industry. They believe in helping people, but are operating in the same systems and products as they have for years. No innovation; yet the cost of covering losses has increased radically - catastrophic events, cost of repair (a bumper on a car used to be $800 now $10K with all the tech built in). You can't run a business if you don't make money. Business needs money to reinvest in their business in things like innovation. Yet these orgs have built up complex systems to “run” the business that cost $$$ - they have succumbed to the corporate greed culture. Everyone suffers.

Too many to name. From the insurance preferred shop lies, your rates won’t increase if you don’t use your policy, to our goal is to recover your deductible, no it’s not lol

One of my favorite sayings is that not all agents are created equal. Unfortunately I think one of the lies most often told by those in our industry that are dishonest tell people that they can do something when they absolutely cannot. Ie- yes you can absolutely use that uninsured sub, won't have any impact. And then they get audited and owe thousands, or worse there is a claim and there is an explicit exclusion for them. I make it a point to never lie or sugar coat *most* of my clients appreciate this about me...and then there are some that I lose because of it. Generally, we are there to help people. Protect them from catastrophic losses. However when dishonest agents do what dishonest agents do that policy isn't worth the paper it's written on. But hey! They saved a few thousand for a little while...

This is my first job in a large corporate company, and I’m trying to gauge how long it normally takes to move from entry level to another internal position in the insurance industry. I have been applying internally for a year now and I am wondering if this is normal or if my company is just slow? I am a top performer, with great metrics, and I have some wonderful connections I’ve made who support me. I just can’t seem to move up. How long did it take you to move up? How many tries did it take?
