What’s the path after being Chief of Staff for years? Can you land a CxO role?

Generally its a director, maybe VP role as the next step. I have not heard of anyone going directly to CxO but will defer to others for more datapoints

I’ve seen the same as MSFT1. Definitely not straight to c-suite. More like director or VP (or even SVP) depending on company.

Chief of staffs vary a lot, we have chief of staffs that have 3-5 years of experience (L3), and chief of staffs with 15+ years of experience (L6), which is equal to a VP (give or take).

Typically people move into a role with P&L responsibilities (eg a CoS in corp strat becomes a director of corporate strat)
