They always say to me “wanna get out of busy season?!” Meanwhile my LinkedIn shows that I’m in deal advisory and we have no particular busy season. I get that’s not 100% common knowledge but come on. It’s your job.
How many hours?
All this to say- they don’t care about you the individual. But the networks you have developed at your firm do actually care about you and where you want to take your career. Talk to people at your firm about your career- don’t listen to the recruiters as they don’t have your interests at heart.
My favorite is “here is an analyst job, senior associate role and they are in person…” thanks I will pass I am a manager and I don’t usually have to go into the office
Such funny introverts
I got contacted for a lock box analyst position last week. Pay is $13hr and involves scanning paper checks. Most recruiters are idiots.
Now that’s hilarious.
It is so irritating how half the recruiters don’t even look at your profile. It’s like hey I got a great opportunity for you to take a step down in both position and pay… interested?
Recruiters can be bad at their job too.
Those who can't perform, recruit
If you’re looking to get into accounting consulting with ~30% pay increase , i can refer you to my company! Just left PwC
Is the is a Siegfried pitch?
The best recruiter LinkedIn message I received started with “Hi [Insert Name Here],”…they went on to leave in all the personal fill in the bubble information in this format because they cared :)
The thing you need understand about most of these recruiters who are reaching out to junior staff is that many times they themselves tend to have little experience, credentials, or training. They just whiz around LinkedIn pitching jobs/careers they have little understanding of.
Had two reach out for a VC analyst role. I’m a first year staff at a mid sized firm - didn’t even bother responding to get ghosted. They cast such a wide net that 80% of their messages reach people they wouldn’t actually consider
Recruiters now just prove that they aren't really needed. Most are just a spam farm and aim for quantity over quality. Even on my bad days I'm not willing to go from partner to senior but maybe that's not obvious to them.
In general, at least two recruiters reached me at LinkedIn, one of them from Big4 that I know Big4 are hiring all the time.
Its a revolving door ...
Honestly, I feel like most of them are fishing and seeing who will bite. I ignore the external recruiters (staffing agencies), especially if they don't a specific job with job responsibilities. I also ignore those obviously didn't read my profile. I am not leaving my manager position for $15/hr bookkeeping or senior associate job.
Just wait until you go into industry. Weekly emails to take a pay cut and role reduction to get back into public accounting at one of the small CPA firms in my area for a “supervisor” role.
It is a lack of effort on the part of the recruiters.
I love recruiters, NOT! .... "would you like this 6 month contract temp contract role with long-term potential?" ... paying $45-$55 / hr.
Never bothering to check if you're currently employed, or years of experience to understand that sub 150k temp gig may not be something you would jump to. And to top that they ping you again saying "... never heard back from you for a role I tried contacting you for.
Similar to us, recruiters have levels - I personally do not "friend" any who are in analyst / associate roles. Since college, I've kept my few recruiters as contacts to reach out to when I'm ready to go (like now lol) I've met with them off and on throughout the years, watched them grow into their roles. Several are now fairly high up in their companies or have started their own. That said, they still send me information that is generalized - they are fishing with a net. Like I mentioned, now that I'm seriously looking elsewhere, I have my few trusted recruiters that I'm letting know what I'm looking for and seeing who can provide me with the best options.
I’m hiring global internal auditor. Are you interested in it?
I’m in manufacturing and I get 1-3 DMs a day for junior, associate, analyst, etc positions that are a 33% cut on my salary or senior and manager positions that are 10k+ above my salary (25M with an MS) Wtf are they doing? I’m young, but “my mama didn’t raise no fool.” I would consider my skill set and experience niche, but very impactful where applicable.
I might not be enthused where I’m at now, but I’m content with my pay until I’m finished with my CPA.
Guys they write a script that fires out all of those intro messages. Have you ever noticed how sometimes they will say something like “Hi {first name}”. They don’t look at your profile or anything, they just search for certain keywords and send out mass messages.
