What's your college degree in? I'm a sophomore in college and I know I want to work in product but I'm not sure what degree to pursue. I don't really know what I like, I just read the description of a product manager last year and kind of held on to it. What skills are most important for me to practice while in school?

I finished my degree in computer science, but I took a ton of business classes. Outside of that, leadership skills are easy to build in college when you have opportunities to do projects with other students and on your own. Become comfortable with understanding what the problem is, where it's coming from, and what steps you should be laying out to fix. The practice problems don't have to be difficult, you can practice this in any aspect of life.

I was a communication major and am now a product manager lol. Tbh depends on the company, some want heavy comp sci background, some want business, some wants arts, some healthcare. I’d figure out what kind of products you’d like to work on (apps, websites, softwares, hardware, physical products)

I'd say don't focus too much on the degree. Your competition is in college building products right now. Some of them have live products already. Take a class that gives you the resources to do a group project that solves a problem so you can have that on your resume. It'll be hard to get a product job right out of college without it. Otherwise you'll have to work your way up to a product job 2-3 years into your career

I actually don’t have my degree. But I’m old and came into the business through the side door when you could still do that 😂

My degree is in history. 🤓 I got a PdM cert last year.

Another history major here 🙌

I did comp sci. Honestly it’s been traditionally the case you could end up in product with any major. Ot sure if that’s changed now though as there have been courses that seem specialize in product.

My bachelors is in Spanish + Int’l Business; I ended up in marketing, now in product for 2 yrs!

Degree is in info tech - web multimedia focus and minored in marketing. This mix has worked out well for me, I transitioned from a business systems analyst into product. I think something involving both tech and business would be ideal. Tech to give a good baseline and then add in some business acumen / research function as good communication and interviewing skills are beneficial

Guys, I possess 8yrs experience in technical field/software development. I have done B.tech from tier-3 college & have worked mostly in service based MNCs.

I would like to know what would be the path if I would like to move to VP(technology)/CTO role in the long run.

As I have not done PG & even graduated from tier-3 college, are there any additional courses which can boost & add value to my profile?
