When I was 20, I could never imagine making 150k. Now I’m 34 and turning 150k… yet it doesn’t feel like enough despite being able to save over 25k a year (after 401k). This plagues my mind because I feel like I should be confident and secure about my situation… yet I feel like I’m financially fragile despite exceeding anything I ever imagined I would achieve. Does anyone else struggle with this? Any advice for someone with my mindset?

For a little perspective, I’m 41 now but was making just a little more than you when I was 34…I make more than double now, and my wife also makes similar $. All in we are somewhere over 600k for our household…and I still feel exactly as you’ve described. Also, my standard of living is much the same as it was when I was 34…same house, similar cars, etc.

That said, I have a side business, several rental homes, excellent equity and around $2M in retirement savings…just trying to be encouraging that you are doing well, should probably continue to do what you are doing. I might suggest investing in a way that allows you to build your net worth in a way that doesn’t feel like such a chore. For instance (and I know RE market is tough now), but my tenants pay ~$35k year of mortgage principle, and that’s before any profit or appreciation. All I have to do is collect the rent and pay the mortgage. Just a thought as it feels like saving $25k/year is unsustainable without the feeling of big sacrifice.

Amazing, your situation is what I am aiming to achieve. I have a small rental portfolio and looking to buy a small business this year. What service/product does your small biz sell?

Same. I am late 30s and searching now. The only industries that pay more are corporate law SWE etc. You have to keep jumping frequently for raises.

Man that's well above average. But who's trying to be average anyways. I think you're doing well.

The reality is inflation showed up to the party and ruined everything. It’s dangerous and self-fulfilling.

You are aren’t doing anything wrong, these forces are beyond your control. What you are doing right is saving your money (I am sure you are way ahead of your age group) and not going into debt. Live below your means, stay somewhat liquid and you will get through the next couple of years.

I think this offer is well below par, but curious to hear what you guys think/if you have any comparisons?

Hello! Looking at an opportunity with established startup in UK that's just been acquired by a large co. I'm not sure how to reply to them because I have a feeling that my requirement may be out of their range and while I don't want to undercut my value, I also don't want to be cut out of the process because it's an interesting co.
