Rising Star
I have gone through phases...
First, I spent hours each day mining my contacts, emails hiring managers directly, creating customized versions of my resume, etc. None of it resulted in a new job,
Then, "spray and pray," since my initial efforts hadn't worked, I just started applying to almost everything that was even close to what I was looking for. I did get a few interviews, but no job. Usually, someone with more relevant experience was selected over me.
Then, like you, I settled into a routine of applying only to the 2 - 4 jobs a day that matched my qualifications the best. My "hit rate" for getting interviews didn't decrease even though I was applying to fewer jobs.
Frankly, I landed a job thanks to a "Right place, Right time" situation.

Hmm, well lots of companies on LinkedIn said they don’t like being cold called. Recruiters reach out when a role is open. Even a reposted job targets new candidates. That’s how they meet the quota as well.
That sounds sensible. I see these articles and posts by people who say they've applied for 1,000 jobs, and I really wonder. Like, is that even possible? And assuming you can automate things and do that, what's the point, you might as well be throwing resumes out the window.
Sounds like a really good plan. When I first started job hunting, I was already burnt out after a week or two. Felt hopeless and I was so overwhelmed. Spending a couple meaningful hours a day instead of countless, really did help with the quality of what I was putting out there too.
Better to be strategic. I landed my next role 90 days after my contract ended. Don’t consume too much LinkedIn & ppl venting. Only thing is this one is hybrid. The others were remote. Which right now is taking longer. Since we’re in Fall.
Was that looking for a job while having an employment or without it? Because the pressure of not having income definitely makes applying just for 4 jobs a day uncomfortable...
I found a few I really wanted so I did all the adjusting and networking. Then at the same time I sprayed anything that was in my field but not necessarily a "dream" opportunity
I agree. Focusing on targeted jobs and thoroughly preparing for them is more effective than sending out countless applications, and it is also good for our mental health.
Sounds like you can give careerduck.io a try for your targeted jobs :)
