In this market it might be tough unless you’re in some specialty group. Most of the firms have recently went through rounds of layoffs, so I think negotiating sign on bonuses might be tougher than usual. Good luck!
$10k - $15k seems to be the norm for seniors and above.

In my experience you only get a sign on bonus if you ask for it. Why would the firm just voluntarily toss you money for no reason? Tell them you want $XX signing bonus upfront and will commit 2 years or you’ll pay it back. Up to you then if it’s worth it or not. Personally I’d ask for more base so there’s no clawback
Two years is not a long time… and the firm is not going to give you something for nothing unless they are really needy for your role. You can always ask, and provided you phrase it well there is typically no harm in doing so, but the firm can also always rescind the offer if they think you’re an unreasonable person who will be a bad fit. I’ve seen this happen a handful of times. You need to “read the room” based on your interview experience. If you got the impression that they felt you were God’s gift to earth, then ask. If you feel lucky to have received the offer, maybe not.
