Total comp generally includes base, bonus, and stock based compensation. Technically it should include things paid by your company on your behalf (any other benefits), but transparency is often lacking there.
Pro
Think of it as things that convert to money.

Base + bonus + stock + PTO payout at full accrual + 401k match + full cost of benefits + projected valuation of company divided by headcount on the 3rd Thursday of every other December + ((bill rate x .373) - (your salary ÷ 3)) + the difference between your average food spend and per diem.
Makes complete sense now!
On this app? People include everything, including the cost of snacks in the fridge. In the real world? Base + bonus + equity. Maybe some sort of 401k match if the difference between companies is going to make a difference to your decision to stay or go.
I don’t think most would include benefits. Mostly: base salary + bonus + shares

Base, bonus and equity for responding to TC here.
When comparing offers, you need to add everything together to find the true TC.

What about 401k contributions (not match) - do folks include that? I’ve noticed BB specifically lists it in their comp talks but we don’t really discuss non-cash comp as part of our TC discussions

401k contributions that are no-strings-attached and happen at the beginning of the year rather than completing the year should be included.
