That’s their problem not yours - what does the compensation structure look like now with this added workload that you or your team needs to absorb- cost savings or departures cannot come at your expense - learning this lesson the hard way so,no fuck it - have them show you the updated compensation structure and timelines of when this will be alleviated

Why isn’t that departing direct report’s manager not picking up their work? It’s not wrong to ask to be compensated for doing more than your JD. However be prepared for a no response. I asked this multiple times throughout my career and was told no. Eventually left that employer

I doubt you will be compensated. Are they planning to replace the person, if not I would lay out what you haven your plate and suggest that you can drop.
