While interviewing with Pemco, I was told, "If you don't hear from me by Wednesday, ping me." I didn't hear from her, so I pinged her. What did I get back, CRICKETS. I was excited about this job, I would've been able to step right in, but the lack of response after being requested to ping the individual, showed me that I don't want to work for Pemco. Send a one or two sentence email that "we've gone in a different direction." "We picked someone else, but thank you." What is wrong with HR?

I don’t condone ghosting at all and you will probably hear from them even if it is the canned email rejection. However, there are so many factors that go into this. Recruiters do not make the hiring decisions, but are often left with the cleanup of hiring managers dragging their feet or suddenly receiving an employee referral that has to be prioritized over external candidates even when the deal was done for all intents and purposes. Also, in this economy, I’ve seen requisitions get put on hold mid interview process. Another thing is where there are several interviewers, sometimes it takes a while to come to a consensus. You could be an amazing candidate with the perfect qualifications but somebody misread something you said or didn’t like your tone and can’t get past it. Unfortunately, you’ll never know week they went mute unless you have someone on the inside giving you intel.

smart

Great response not many people recognize that recruiters don't make hiring decisions. Plus you given a lot of examples as to why their may be a delay.

That silence says more about their culture than any interview question could. If someone invites you to follow up and then ignores you, that lack of respect would only get louder after you join. You made the right call walking away.

It’s awful how many people can say this is the normal than just receiving a polite message.

It just sounds like that was a “nice” thing to say. But keep in mind they might have an overload of candidates and no help managing through it. I wouldn’t take it personally.

I’ve been working for a company for 25yrs, looking for advancement. I’m considered an SME, managing people, Vendors and working on large system conversions. Have provided long term goals. Recently interviewed with another company as a Vendor Mgmt partner. Individual contributor, high visible position with potential. Thoughts?

I was in the final stages of an interview with Microsoft two weeks ago, in partner marketing. Then the recruiter told me they were putting the hiring process on hold to assess the need for the role. Well, then we heard about Microsoft layoffs last week. Seems like most were in Xbox and Project Alpha but there’s not a lot of information out there. Should I hold out any hope that I’m going to get this job? Any insights on how much these layoffs have impacted the marketing org and/or new hiring?

California peeps. I have a feeling I failed FAR, which is my last exam, but my score isn’t released until May 11. Can I submit the reapplication with the CA Board of Accountancy to speed up the retake and NTS process in case I failed? Or do I need to get my exam score first? I need to pass by mid June, else my REG score expires, hence the rush to resubmit the re-application.

I’ve just started a bowl for diversity in London specifically if anyone is interested - 9qo8f

Do NOT claim you are "colorblind" in the workplace. 1. DE&I knowledge is now a core leadership competency. Colorblind claims will earn you the reputation of being DEI-ignorant at best & racist at worst. 2. Colorblindness within the context of workplace diversity is an obvious lie. You do NOT want to be painted as an intellectually dishonest leader. 3. Colorblind claims signal that you lack the leadership skills & vocabulary to have key conversations. Ask questions here, in this safe space.

Hello! It seems this bowl is not very active but I'd like it to be. So here's my story: Born & raised in PR, moved to CA for undergrad & have been here since then. I graduated from law school in 2019, followed by a 2 yr bk clerkship. I did the evening program. I really enjoyed law school, in spite of the microaggressions, the late nights, & crazy competition. Love all things diversity in the law. Anyway, currently looking for a position in NYC/DC area. 🤗
