Who has a better overall student loan /debt relief policy? Biden or Trump? It all seems like a mess to me.

What sort of a question is this? The Republicans have 0 interest in any student debt relief whatsoever

like

Youve gotta be joking. I mean it all depends on what you want lol. No student loan relief at all? Trump. Student loan relief? Biden. It all depends on which of those two things you’re interested in. That’s like asking who has the better abortion policies. I mean… are you pro or against? That’ll give you your answer

like

I’m also wondering what policies - implying both parties have provided one - this questions is based on? I can’t say I’ve seen a proposal or policy draft from republicans, not saying there isn’t one, just I’ve not heard of one.

like

I can’t even believe you are asking this question! Trump or any Republicans will not give two ___ about any type of help for anyone. And if elected and these policies aren’t put into stone, the Republicans will remove them all!

like

Yea I hate to agree with this because I hate talking politics but you nailed it. They really don't care at all about this kind of thing so in this case I would defintiely say Biden is the best bet for it actually happening.

Trump has expressed some reasonable student loan policy, especially compared to some of his other policies! But Bidens administration has certainly had a significantly better impact on current borrowers.

Honestly, neither has done or said much about reducing the cost of college which is a must fix even more so than student loan relief.

I mean, that’s the only reason most politicians say things 😂. I certainly don’t trust Trump in the slightest. He repeatedly tried to repeal PSLF but proposed a simpler loan forgiveness solution that wasn’t as generous but wasn’t unreasonable.

like

Maybe pay your loan? Instead of looking to get away from the responsibility? Probably think about where was US under Trump and where it is now? Which economy will give you the chance to perform better professionally and personally, so you can pay what you borrowed like a decent citizen and still take care of you and your family and hopefully your community. Think about it, you will know who to vote for this November.

Isn't Biden just forgiving student loans that would've been forgiven anyway and just hyping it up to be his awesome program?
Like the 10 year forgiveness thing for teachers, nurses, etc?

like

There are some targeted forgiveness initiatives that wouldn’t have received it otherwise. His administration has made improvements to the existing PSLF program that has helped expand eligibility and streamline forgiveness. Basically the Trump/Devos Ed Dept actively made PSLF more difficult and restrictive for eligible borrowers whereas the Biden/Cardona Ed Dept has worked the streamline the process and expanded eligibility.

It’s true the bulk of folks eligible for PSLF were already eligible before Biden but being eligible and having to sue to enforce your rights vs actually receiving forgiveness in a cumbersome federal process are very different. Still lots of improvements are needed but Biden is at least trying to make it easier.

Well, so far I haven’t personally benefited from anyone’s student debt relief plan so I am not sure either has a great policy. It sounds to me that Biden sets up grand plans for student debt relief knowing full well it won’t get through the courts. So Biden gets credit without having to do anything. But trump doesn’t have any plan at all
