Why are there some partners that treat everyone like a first year? They’re even some attorneys who have 15 years of experience and they are required to have this partner to review their emails. I get the feeling that if anybody works for these types of partners they have to leave the firm or they will get zero experience.

People like that have trust issues, and find it impossible to delegate fully.

Not sure. Similar vein I have certain people frequently explain basic concepts sort of like mansplaining. I think some people find comfort in being occupied with simple things

Agreed, but lol

Some are simply micromanagers. Then some want you to leave them alone and tell them when the deal/matter/case is closed. I’d prefer something in between (not looking over my shoulder but available for questions or to bounce ideas), but haven’t found it often.

This is why so many go out on their own.

They probably worry those people can’t handle simple contractions.

My problem was the opposite, I treated everyone as if they were a senior associate. I’m a terrible mentor and hated having to help people when it would be easier to do it myself. That’s a fault of mine, likely because when I was a first year, I got treated like I was much more advanced than I was. I was a quick study. Some people aren’t. I guess when it comes down to it, I’m too lazy to micromanage. Unless it is actually important. Which really isn’t all that often, come to think of it, in daily professional life.
