Why did everyone here pick PI as your area of practice? I'm thinking about pivoting this year and would love some insight.

Sounds corny, but helping people. When the work piles up or gets tough, it’s a lot easier to stay motivated when you know that what you’re doing can make a big difference and positive impact in someone’s life.

Agree!

Strictly for the money. It can definitely be rewarding to help out injured clients, but I started out in the DAs office and miss it. I feel like I helped out more people in a week being a prosecutor than I do in a year as a PI attorney. Not to mention, civil litigation is extremely boring compared to criminal law.

Kind of “fell” into it. I am in med mal now and really love the medicine of it. Also lots of PI jobs available.

Former med mal defense attorney. Slightly less work, attorneys are cooler, more fun, more money, never have to worry about billing time.

I think it's fun. That's the only reason

Anyone know of job opening? Work for an insurance defense firm and want to make the switch.

Any thoughts on the best certifications to get in order to help move forward? I have considered the CCP from World at Work, but it’s fairly pricey to get by the time you wrap up everything. I was looking at both SHRM-CP and SPHR. Everyone that I have spoken to has the SHRM, but that’s also only looking at individuals in a small geographic footprint and within 3-4 different companies. I was hoping to get some thoughts on this from others? Thanks

Hey y'all, kind of a two part question:
1. I enjoy the people management more than individual contributor stuff. What career paths do you see in our industry for people who are managing support engineering teams?
2. What certifications are valued today? Seems like being a AWS Cloud Practitioner is a good general one, but are there others that stand out?

Hi! I have worked in management roles in tech, mainly in analytics, for approximately 10 years. My TC has fluctuated (currently around 135K CAD), but it seems like it's relatively easy to breach the 100K bar, but hard to breach the 150K bar. I now work at the CBC, but I have worked in the private sector too. What is the most realistic way to move to 200K? 1) Continue moving the ladder to a VP position, 2) Switch to Pre-Sale, 3) Switch to Consulting, 4) Work from a U.S. company from Canada.
