I've figured the deadlines are just performative. It's a way to keep pressure high and show activity, even when there’s no real rush behind the scenes. Unfortunately, it puts recruiters in an awkward spot and we get stuck waiting on decisions, delaying responses to candidates who deserve better communication. You’re definitely not alone. Voicing it might help push for a more transparent process? It didn't help me but maybe your leaders are more receptive?
I think a lot of people are just wired to deal with deadlines and over time assigning deadlines has worked for them. I assume the leadership you're talking about would have a lot of things on their plate. So even if you adhere to the deadlines, other things may get in the way on their end.

good point
Deadlines are a necessity. Labeling everyone with urgent or high priority isn’t. It gets overused a lot, true. It should come down to a conversation about what the timelines look like.
Pro
yesss everything labeled as urgent makes it lose its meaning and effectiveness

nope, lots of my leaders will do this too. I think they overestimate the amount of time they have available, and are still anxious to get the process moving.
