Hi there. Ex Deloitte Sr Mgr here, currently in tech pre sales (SaaS / MarTech). Recently spoke to both Salesforce and Adobe recruiters for roles that I thought were lateral moves (Sr SA / Sr SC), therefore I did not proceed with the selection process. The recruiters from both companies told me they typically hire at that level, and people are considered for promotion to Principal in 1 to 2 years. I found that odd. Is that right? What’s the typical TC for SAs and SCs there? (15+ yrs exp).

Because we have it too good to complain in this line of work 😂
I agree with SE1, people usually come on here to complain or search for jobs, at least at first so it's probably a good sign that not many feel the need to come do that. There's also the fact that there's a big Sales Bowl so most of the people in the field probably go there before they further niche down into a community like this. Still, if you want to liven up the community you're more than welcome to keep posting discussion questions and sharing with others. It takes real people to build a real community :)

Fishbowl emailed me and said the bowl was busy enough
I think SE is still a niche role imo. When I mention SE to people in tech they always make the usual joke “how can you engineer sales??”or they think it’s an AE/AM job.

The last answer, but also more so this.
It’s not a well known role since most people think of either sales or implementation/PM when they think about what they want to do.
There’s also a lot of different naming conventions for the SE role. An SE could be a Solutions Engineer, Sales Engineer, Solutions Architect, PreSales, Solutions Consultant, etc. so I would guess this type of role is distributed across a variety of different bowls.
