With 6+ years in my role and a stable salary in USD, I used to just leave my money sitting in a savings account. But watching inflation eat into it was a wakeup call. Recently, I’ve started exploring smarter investment options to grow beyond just saving. What about you what’s your go to investment these days? Stocks, crypto, ETFs, or something else?

Imagine you DCA'd into gold for the full six years, you would have doubled your money probably.

I would stay away from bitcoin because the sooner the masses catch on to the Ponzi scheme Michael Saylor is running, the sooner it will crash back to zero.

Remaining 25000 coins known as crypto, each thinks it's the best. You might as well go gamble away your money in a real casino, would be more fun to lose it that way.

If you want to play it safe and get steady gains, I would DCA into FZROX periodically.

DCA = dollar cost averaging. Like invest the exact same amount on the same day of each month. That way you are not emotional about it.

Appreciate the clarity and conviction in your approach. Gold definitely has its place, especially as a hedge, and DCA into it over six years would’ve been a solid move. I hear you on crypto there’s a lot of noise and hype, and it’s tough to separate real innovation from speculation. FZROX is a great call for steady, long-term growth.

smart

The only money you should have in a savings (and checking) account should be what you need to spend each month + 3-6 months of spend for an emergency. The rest should be invested. If you are not knowledgable or want to spend time worrying about it, then you should invest in the general market through an index fund. This is assuming you are already getting your 401k match and contributing to your Roth maxes.

like

This is solid advice. It’s easy to overlook how much idle cash in savings loses value over time, especially with inflation creeping in. I like the framework you laid out cover monthly expenses, build an emergency fund, and then put the rest to work. Index funds are a great low maintenance option for people who want exposure to the market without the stress of picking stocks.

I've become a fan of ETFs just because you can focus on a sector and there's some diversity within each one. I invested in some ETFs that focus on cybersecurity, AI, and clean energy, and they seem to be doing well. The problem right now is that everything seems to be overvalued, so I'm hesitant to commit. I've got cash on the sidelines and if there's a pullback I'll do some buying. Just about any chart you check now shows whichever equity to be at its absolute peak.

like

Really appreciate your take on ETFs sector focused ones like cybersecurity and clean energy definitely seem promising, especially with long-term trends backing them. I totally get the hesitation though. The market feels frothy right now, and it’s hard to justify jumping in when everything’s at a peak. Holding cash and waiting for a pullback sounds like a smart move.

Do like me, and keep it all tied up in debt. Sure fire was to lock in an interest rate.

This is literally so hilarious!

Hi Everyone,
I need your views and suggestions. I have two doubts:
1. Is it fair to leave an organisation (big brand) after a year as the environment is real toxic and there’s no career growth as well in terms of good work.
2. If I have to make a switch do I really have to target big brands only or can try for medium and small size companies too.

I was supposed to hear back this week (according to the recruiter) but he just told me that it's still in the process and that I'll have to wait for another week or so.

Is this common at Google ? I have heard they are notorious for being really slow with their hiring process.
