Has anyone interviewed with Amazon in the last 6 months. I finished my loop for a finance role. It’s been 8 business days and no update from the recruiter. I mailed the recruiter who said apologies for the delay but we will get back to you with next steps. Has anyone had this experience and what was the outcome Amazon
“Tone policing is defined as "a conversational tactic that dismisses the ideas being communicated when they are perceived to be delivered in an angry, frustrated, sad, fearful, or otherwise emotionally charged manner." Managers striving to create a workplace based on equity and inclusion must understand how tone policing silences members of marginalized groups and allows discrimination to persist.” https://www-businessinsider-com.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/www.businessinsider.com/how-to-identify-and-help-stop-tone-policing-in-workplace-2020-8?amp

This post is a perfect example of how far people of color and women have yet to go in this industry. As soon as we start to move into a white, male-dominated court they feel threatened and feel the need to vent about it anonymously on an app. How about you embrace the leveling out of a long uneven playing field and see how diversity can make our ideas and agencies stronger?
@supervisor1 Racism and sexism include an element of power that is fundamental to these terms. A dominant group in a position of power -- here, white men -- can be discriminated against or experience prejudice, but it's neither racism nor sexism. Next time you weigh in on a complex issue with a snarky response, consider digging deeper than dictionary.com.
OP, you ever wonder maybe they're not promoting you not because you're white, but because you're an asshole? 🤔
How come no one upvoted my white men can't jump comment? That's racist. Why don't u like woody Harrelson? What did he ever do to you? Sam Malone disapproves.
This entire thread saddens me and proves how far we have to go in race relations and diversity in the workplace. And this OP sounds eerily familiar to a poster in the SR group. Making an inflammatory post like this doesn't do anything to further the much needed discussion.
I'm with C3. Yes, we need to "level" the industry. No one is questioning that. But you can't undo what's been done. There are a lot of white dudes in this shit. If you rip them out or stop letting them in, yeah, you might balance things out in the short run. At least, it'll appear that way. But what you'll actually be doing is triggering a different set of problems and a new standard of flawed, preferential hiring practices. And then you'll just have a different group of people on the outs. And they will then bitch and claw and stab their way into a retaliatory rebalancing. You see how this works? It's cyclical. Putting the diversity problem through the laundromat isn't going to fix anything. We need to think about tomorrow instead of today. What we really need is a more diverse talent pool coming into the industry. If we focus on that, the future won't have this issue. But focusing on the past and trying to solve this problem in a 2 year turnaround ain't gonna cut it. We all need to cut the shit and quit bickering with each other. Stop taking a side and start taking a stance. Realize we can make a difference for the next generation. And realize that if we don't stop tearing each other and this industry down then there won't be anything left for anyone.
The problem starts well before people enter the working force. Think about college - how many POC were in your ad/portfolio classes? A very small percentage for me, and I imagine that's the norm. The industry has to be seen as a viable career path for all. Until then the changes will be incremental at best.
OP Why don't you use all this energy to do your job better and get promoted? Or use it to find a better agency to work for if this one is not doing it for you. Bitching about it does nothing, especially on Fishbowl
At my last 3 agencies, straight white men were def a minority.
OP are you friends with that dude from google? This thread makes me sick.
Diversity: the inclusion of individuals representing more than one national origin, color, religion, socioeconomic stratum, sexual orientation, etc.
It ain't just about white men you know...
I love data. Let's play the numbers. Budget allows for 100 people. 50 men / 50 women. Of those 50 men, let's segment equally by race: 10 white, 10 black, 10 Hispanic, 10 Asian, 10 Indian. We now have 10 white men. Let's segment by sexual orientation: 5 straight, 5 gay. We now have 5 straight white men. Let's segment by religion: 1 Jewish, 1 Muslim, 1 Christian, 1 Buddhist, 1 agnostic. There, we have now created a list of who should receive work.
They can't jump, so they are also prejudiced against.
In order to stop promoting white men, the pool has to be more diverse. That's the reason for the diversity groups. In order to promote someone who's not white or male, there has to be someone there who's not white or male.
@Director1, lol you let me know when that happens, dude. 👌🏻
Should the NBA quit hiring black men? IE, should we apply this logic to every field and make it proportional to the population? What about other characteristics? There's a tall privilege out there, should we fix that by instituting a height quota? Attractive people have an advantage too(halo effect) - should we quota that as well?
The best person for the position should get the position. Period. Race shouldn't even come into it. True meritocracy is colour blind.
SOS I can't stop eye rolling
PM1 how are they arbitrary? Statistically we should have less white men and less white women. We need more people of color.
Edgy!
@D1 That would never happen so why even ponder?
Hey PM1, open a dictionary. Anyone can be a victim of racism. Yes, some groups are more prone to it, but to say one group is completely immune is downright irresponsible to say. And👏using👏emojis👏in👏your👏statements👏is👏incredibly👏juvenile👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
