With the shortage of substitute teachers in our district if we don't have a sub, and all the EAs are filling in, we often have to absorb students from other classrooms. How does your school deal with substitute shortages? If you have to absorb a class, What is your technique for managing extra students?

If a sub isn’t available, they pay us to sub during our plan times. It’s optional and usually someone volunteers because we’re paid per diem, but if no one volunteers, we are assigned on a rotation basis. It was bargained and put in our contracts.

If we take on another class we get paid for it. So it does at least compensate teachers for taking on more students. I just find it difficult to get them to work on assigned projects when the class size doubles.

It is funny how teachers who wouldn't volunteer to sit in another class for one class period are now offering to take on another entire class for the whole day when they can get compensated for it.

Literally had a teacher get upset that her students were put in a classroom with a teacher that they don't like. She specifically asked the next time she was out for half a day, that they let her kids go to the PE teacher so they could have fun, because they don't like going to the other teacher.

Please pray for me. I’m going back into the classroom soon. I praying for all of you too. This may be a rough reentry. But I know God is with us. He can absorb the bounce.

Is anyone else returning to fully in person learning? We have been hybrid/synchronous since September, which has been very hard and not very effective. They want us to have all Kindergarten students come back in March. I want to stop live teaching over google meet all day while also teaching my students in person at the same time, but there is not enough space in my classroom for safe distancing, not enough space for movement, and sitting at a desk all day is not appropriate for K kids!

Our school uses Foss Kits for Science and I was told when students return, we will need to sanitize all items before and after each use. This doesn’t seem possible in a middle school setting where each period has a 4 minute break and 25 students in each period. What do you do in your classroom to minimize the amount of work needed to clean and sanitize items. I don’t want to short change the students’ hands-on experiences.

Our district voted on returning back to school with students in the classroom and some staying at home. We now have to teach students in the room and on Zoom at the same time. I’m not complaining but does anyone have any tips on the best and most effective way to get this done?

Does anyone have experience working for Connections Academy or another virtual academy? I am very interested in teaching from home, but most virtual jobs I have reviewed still require you to come to an office/ school building. I want to know what it is like, specifically the work load. Got this little gem as part of a bundle for my classroom. Absolutely delightful! Set in 1946 in Chicago, Cline-Ransome does a magical job of describing how a young boy struggles with death, moving, bullying, and learning of his own heritage. I can’t wait to share this with my students!

NFW- I just had a good laugh. Earlier today I was on a video conference call reviewing a Private Label Agreement template with a larger company who wishes to brand label products we develop and manufacture. We came to a very one-sided provision and my sales VP stated “for this one, how can we just say ‘hell no’ ...nicely?” The other person on the call said we can replace the wording with just NFW (no f@$* way) and I said “I will have to add that to the defined terms section so it’s clear”

Plan to go to B-school in 3 years (1 year out of UG now). Long term goal is entrepreneurship. Have offers at a MBB firm for a generalist consultant role and at FAANG for a strategy role. FAANG offer is slightly higher (though both are a 50+% bump on my current comp). Both would have me reset to entry level. Which one should I take?

Hi Guyz,

Any one from
IBM ?

I went through the entire recruitment process and got selected for IBM ISL. Now I am being told by the HR that they are unable to release offer as there is a hiring freeze.

Can any one please tell me if its correct or just an excuse not to give me offer. If its true, when will this freeze be removed?
