Level 9 average salary?
Hi all, recently in touch by Spotify recruiter for a Sec Engineer position for remote EU and was told that range was 60-80 out of base salary and equity. Had 2 years of security experience out of my 4 years. Was also told that there is no bonus scheme or no sign in bonus 😕 Not sure how I feel about this tbh.
What do you think?

You’re making $200K as a Supe? You might be the highest paid Supe in all the land. Good for you! Seriously.
Agreed. Where do you work? What are svps and EVPs making there. Are they hiring?
You will hit a salary band wall, especially if that’s the range you’re in for a Supe, surprised you haven’t hit it before making it to that range already TBH. Are you interviewing for Supe roles when you say you explain you operate at Director level? How many years have you been a Supe and during that time, how many different places?
F that. If I’m getting over 200K as a supe I’m riding that train forever.
Not making 200k. The first comment gave everyone the wrong idea. It's a range from base to max pay at the position.
Jesus Christ WHERE?
Forget the 1st comment. Not making 200k. Just a range for base to max pay at supe.
Is this from the Onion?
Crap. Now my AS will see this and want a raise.
Makes me think of the scene in Billy Madison where Sandler tells the little kids to never grow up and stay where they are forever 😂
I’m sorry, that’s your range as a SUPE????
Mentor
1) your agency sounds really weird, but if they’re paying supes that range, I’d def try to get an internal promotion there to make even more!
2) Maybe play hard ball with them and make them think you’re a flight risk if you don’t get promoted? Can you find an old job description for director at your current agency and highlight all the things you’re currently doing? Take that to your boss and tell them that’s why you’re unhappy.
3) you’re def going to have to take a pay cut if you leave for a normal director-level job.
4) I wouldn’t tell any recruiters that you’re eligible for that range at your current company bc it sounds insane.
This is a ridiculous post. No AS on earth is earning $140-200K. That would require the most wonkily run account and finance departments I’ve ever heard of. The risks of paying even one person that much are tremendous. $100k for an AS is probably the upper band of reality.
I made $90k as an SAE... Ive heard of plenty of supervisors at agencies making around $140k. Power to the people, supervisors SHOULD be making this, If not more...
The other thing that may be happening is that you reached an exceptionally high pay as a Sup possibly making it difficult to afford promoting you further as you’re in Director level pay range.
Where can I become an Account Sup? Trade ya
Edit - the range is around what I started at as a supe to my potential cap (based on recruiter offers). Not my actual pay. I've also stated that I get hired as a supe and then end up doing the work of levels higher than my position, or multiple roles because I'm well versed in a lot of areas. I then leverage my way to get more money because of that without a title advancement. It would be great if people read the post and focused on my question of overcoming my title. Thanks.
If you can’t lock down the title at your current agency, then you’re going to need to try to get a director title elsewhere and work from there. Some agencies don’t like to hire and promote, some will. It may end up being a lateral move pay-wise or with a very nominal raise to get a Director title.
Our sup band is more like $70-$100k and brand new directors are starting at like $120k which is quite a bit less than the range you shared.
Once you have the Director title you’ll have more room to negotiate based on experience - for example, work to get to a Sr. Director or Group Director next - and target the salary in line with those roles. I know a Director who switched agencies after a year, finessed their way into a 50k raise.
You'll need to either earn the AD title at your current agency, or get hired as an AD at another agency.
Don't interview for any more Supervisor positions—that'll just prolong the stagnation. Look for AD roles, and tell recruiters you're looking for an AD role.
Even if you can get a nice salary bump to take another Supervisor role, it'd likely take at least 6-12 months to establish yourself and get promoted to AD. And that's on the optimistic side. Most agencies won't hire a Supervisor with the expectation to promote that person to AD immediately.
Talk to your current agency about your plan for growth and what you need to do to become an AD. Take on as many AD-level responsibilities as possible to put on your resume and discuss in interviews.
Good luck!
Companies know that job tittles don’t match responsibilities or levels, no standard. That’s why usually they ask for your current salary and use that as sign of level at company
Taking this to my next 1:1 with my manager!!! Thanks!!!!!
