Worked close to 20 years at a firm with 7 attorneys. I was not assigned to any one attorney and worked for all of them at one time or another but primarily worked as the firm owner's paralegal. The firm broke up about 3 years ago. I immediately got another job. After 3 years of working at this new firm I feel unappreciated. They treat me like I am not capable of doing anything right and the boss told the other 2 attorneys at the firm to not give me any litigation work.

Sorry to hear this! Unfortunately there are a lot of bad law firms and attorneys who can’t manage people or show appreciation. My advice: life is short so go where you are appreciated! Doesn’t hurt to put out feelers and job hunt. Best of luck!

Wow. I am sorry to hear such a thing. Please do not allow it to get you down. Why don't you go confront that attorney about it and find out what it is that they do not like with your work. I don't think it's right they hide that from you, especially if they are taking work away from you. Keep you strength up and do not give up. Press in and keep doing your best. And one more thing, it may not be you at all. They attorney could be going through something and taking it out on you.

So you are saying I should just be homeless and kill myself after 20 years of being an active excellent litigation assistant because I'm 64 and have no other source if income.

It's time to move and QUICKLY. They do not deserve you. Why put yourself through dealing with other peoples' BS. You deserve to be happy. You only get one life. This isn't a dress rehearsale. Get out there and find a firm that knows how to appreciate people.

I agree, life isn't a dry run. Why waste your time and talent on ingrates who don't know how lucky they are to have you? It's a tough job market, but for now keep your head down and focus on work while you keep your options open. It's pretty sad how people are looked at as expendable and are taken for granted when they deserve so much better. Best of luck to you!

Why some Managers and Leads are obsessed over faster delivery? I have found this behaviour specifically within India Based firms or clients. I mean quality work takes time. Seriously start the work in chaos and then later say “We understand everything is complicated in this project but it is how it is and we have to work hard to tackle this!” I mean it was you who made it complicated!

Why do firms fire people with low but still profitable hours? I am in my first full year on track for pretty low hours (~1500) but the actual realized fees (after writedowns) are still double my yearly salary. Is it because firms know they could replace someone like me with an equivalent attorney who would bill more?

Has anyone dealt with a lack of praise from attorneys? I'm not someone who needs to hear "good job" all the time, but we just got a huge deal closed that I worked really hard on and had a lot of overtime. Any struggling paralegals here? Do you feel like your financial situation is affecting your productivity at work? I like the work I do but the pay really sucks. I feel like the fear of not being able to pay some bills on time is affecting my productivity. I’ve asked for a raise but that may not still cut it, and idk if that will go through or not.

I am a paralegal interested in making the jump from litigation to Worker's Compensation. I don't have recent experience in WC but recall it was a lot of form work. Any Worker's Compensation experts here that can offer an opinion (is it a heavy lift) and run me thru some of your daily activities? I am in New Jersey. Thanks!

I started working for a new law firm, much larger than the firm I was working for previously. The main attorney that I work under had noticed some mistakes I was making (I am a NY paralegal who took this position with the understanding that they’d be teaching me NJ and NYC real estate). Anyways, the attorney decided to tell the HR manager about the mistakes I had been making. Rather than HR discussing with me, the manager told my dramatic coworker to tell me..how should I handle this? Very hurt!

Paralegals: My firm is looking for a paralegal, and I see the job posting advertising the salary as $65-$75k, with benefits. Is this a good salary for a paralegal (Greater LA area)? I’m not the decision maker, but it’s been a few weeks with very few applicants. I’m curious if there’s something hurting the firm in its search.
