Working in insurance defense I see so many bad claims get paid tens of thousands of dollars and I’ve had at least 3 claims against past employers that could have net me at least half a million. I feel like a 🤡

No one is more of a 🤡 than me. When I got let go as a 2nd year attorney, I didn’t collect unemployment because I was “too proud”. I depleted my savings by a lot during that time.

I’m literally filing a claim this weekend for something similar. There isn’t exactly a time limit.

The same thing happened to me. I used to work for a city. I defended the city against a discrimination claim at our state’s anti-discrimination agency. She claimed her supervisor made her depressed and caused her anxiety. We paid her $20k. A year later, I filed a claim with my state’s anti-discrimination agency against a different employer because I experienced actual racism and lost 🙃

Looking for advice! I was approved to work remotely but my salary will decrease 10%. I received two raises so the decrease brings me down to my previous salary. I was told that it’s due to the cost of labor in the area.

I’ve been with my company for 8+ yrs, I love my manager and the work I do (engagement, recognition, & wellness programs) but I feel like I’m limiting myself since I have the experience, an HRM degree, and SHRM-CP credentials.

Should I apply for roles outside the company?

I have a governmental entity client in Texas that wants to offer 6 weeks of paid parental leave for all employees, even those who aren’t eligible for FMLA. After the paid 6 weeks, the employee can choose to continue paid leave using any accrued personal leave.

Texas does not have a paid parental leave statute.

If paid leave above what is required is offered for parents, do we also have to provide the same benefit to other employees that are eligible for unpaid leave?

I handleda very difficult and convoluted succession for a black family. My client was astute and intelligent. We got along great. His family was difficult. Willfully ignorant.

Part of the succession dealt with clawing back $450,000 in insurance proceeds that a niece fraudulent received from the decedent by making herself the beneficiary on policies. A separate attorney was hired to handle that part before I was hired to handle all other matters, including settling a $500,000 debt with the...

Have you ever been told off by an older attorney of color? We have one Black partner at our firm and in conversation with him this morning he told me I should work on sounding and looking "more professional" and not let my "tone" or "bad attitude" get in the way. I don't think I've ever had a bad attitude at work, and whatever "tone" I'm speaking in it's my normal one. As a Black woman I just feel super weird about it and kind of sad.
