Working on a complicated, all consuming deal under an incompetent lateral partner that clearly oversold their capabilities for this type of work and can’t even issue spot to the level of a good midlevel, let alone a senior associate, makes me want to quit. This deal needs another partner that actually knows how to do their job, but this bozo would never let that happen because it would expose his incapability to a non-associate, so I’m just stuck trying to do it all myself.

C&F question: any attorneys here with a DUI conviction on your record? If so, did you have any issues clearing Character & Fitness in a new jurisdiction?

DUI occurred nearly two years ago as a senior associate in state X with no corresponding discipline in state X; however, now trying to get admitted into state Y...

Obviously, this is an extremely regrettable event, and will make that clear to C&F, along with post-DUI progress.

Completely and totally miserable at my firm and just need a space to vent because my friends are tired of hearing about it. I recently moved from litigation to transactional and am struggling to reach billable targets. In litigation it was no problem hitting 1800+ hours but don’t see how I’m going to come anywhere close to that in a transactional role.

I’m mostly sitting around all day waiting for work that doesn’t take long to complete (though at my desk for 10-12 hours/day). Is this normal? Suggestions on how to keep busy other than asking for work and having good work product?
