Would any of you be willing to share your worst experiences in education in terms of administrative/staff treatment? I wonder if I am alone in this.

A new teacher got her car STOLEN out of the teacher parking lot by a student during school hours. The car was located down the road, crashed and abandoned.

The PRINCIPAL told the teacher to discuss what happened with no one. When the teacher posted on Facebook (private account not public, to friends and family...some of the "friends" were colleagues) that her car was stolen at work and how sad she was, a colleague took a screenshot and SENT IT TO THE PRINCIPAL. The new teacher was chastised and faced retribution. Why? Because the principal wanted it to be swept under the rug. The new teacher put everything through her insurance, and the school did ZERO for her. Her parents had signed on for the car because she was young and they were treated terribly when they tried to find out what happened as well. At the end of the year (2-3 months late), she was "dismissed". The students who stole the car? NOTHING. One of the coldest things ever.

I happen to know that a couple of years later, the principal's sec had sex with her BF on her desk. I smiled a bit.

I’m hiring Systems Administrator II and Systems Engineers in Illinois and Colorado. I’d love any candidate referrals you have if you know someone who is on the job market!

found a role i’m really interested in and came across a post about it from hiring manager with a “reach out if you’re interested”. I’ve got a few connections to the company - is it better to try to go through someone I’m connected with in a different department and try to get referred, or just jump on the hiring manager’s post and reach out to them cold?

I’ve been in community corrections for almost two years. I’m really interested in tech and project management roles. I just do not know where to start far as getting my foot in the door with either industry. I have a BA criminology, I adjust to quick changes, I thrive in fast paced environments and I learn quick. I have a great work ethic.

How do you engage your students in more reading outside of what is required in the classroom? With each passing year I am finding an ever shrinking population of students, including honors students, who actually read beyond what is posted in social media or video games. Students willingly volunteer that they do not read and most parents see it as a non-issue. I tell my students that the best readers are usually the best writers. What are some strategies that you use beyond reading logs ?

I got an email last night from a 7th-grade parent because her son said I mentioned the words "male privilege" in class, and she is very concerned about how that is related to ELA (she said "reading"), and she is concerned about this being taught in public schools. To be clear, I didn't do a lesson on this subject but we did discuss rights versus privileges. I've had multiple parents contact the school/get upset with me because of things like his. It's exhausting... Thoughts?
