Rising Star
Depends on the book. I started The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F**k but lost interest after a few chapters. There are others that I have read (actually mostly listened to in the car ) over and over again. The downside with reading the summary before the book is that they are not as immersive and the learnings may not stick. I find summaries very helpful after having read/listened to the book. Summaries can be quite effective as refreshers and a great way to get back into a particular chapter or theme in the book .
idk sometimes just reading a whole book can help it stick better. I got Blinkist thru Amex for a year and it’s honestly nicer to help me decide if I want to buy/read the book or not. That said, for some of those mainstream self helps there’s a lot of repetition, yes. I try to find self helps that are grounded in more research, generally written by someone with some sort of authority in their field (PhD psychologist, sociologist etc). can pm me if you need some better recs
I would say yes, in many cases. But my experience with these is listening to to summaries provided by colleagues who have read the whole book vs. a summary available online.
I've also summarized for myself just by reading the first 1-3 paragraphs + the final 1-3 paragryof each section. If the intro to the section is particularly interesting, I read the whole thing. This usually works pretty well for me though I'm sure I'm missing out on some of the reinforcement you get from reading their anecdotes.
