Would you take a lower salary at a “brand name” firm or more money at a lesser-known shop? I’m deciding between $95k at a well-known player (think GS, JPM-level prestige) and $120k at a boutique that no one outside the region has heard of. The brand could open doors later, but that $25k difference is real especially with rent and loans. What matteres more in the long run: the name or the number?

Money is more important to me than some brand name. At the end of the day, it's all about the work to do and the skills you develop. I could still grow my career at a small agency and do a world of good with that $25k.

like

Is that brand name going to pay your rent?

That's a huge difference. If it wasn’t that far apart and I felt better about that ‘brand name’ getting me more in the future, I’d be more conflicted. Very hard to pass up an extra 25k.

A major consideration is where you would project things to go in the coming years. If you've got growth ahead of you at the lesser-known firm, that's meaningful. Or, if you think you'll have open road at the big-name firm, it might be good to get in the door and set yourself up for that. You don't say what you're making now, so I assume you could live comfortable on either salary. I'd suggest going where you think the future lies.

Take the money. The other company is trying to use their name to exploit you. Booooo

Any EU attorneys who went for an LL. M. in international commercial law (or other) in Europe?

If so have you found it "worth" the year of your time? I am currently working at a firm that specializes mostly on commercial law and has a lot of foreign clients. I have some options regarding the possible LL. M. One of them is little less prestigeous that would allow me to stay working at law firm as I am studying. The other would mean taking a year off work and pursuing the LL. M, Thanks for help
