Yes, free speech is the right without which all our other rights are moot. I'm hugely impressed with Facebook for standing up to the small-minded, knee-jerk fascists who think "someone" ought to protect them from whatever they disagree with.
Yeah they really impressed me too by allowing the massive spread of false information via political advertising that enabled easily swayed voters into electing as president the biggest piece of human filth this country has ever seen. Bravo, more of this.
Sometimes the best way to change a culture is from the inside
The greatest revolutionaries were infiltrators.
Yes. Would you write copy that gets funded to be advertised on Facebook? Whether you work at Facebook or not, nearly everyone in our industry supports the platform one way or another
Just because I indirectly work for that platform doesn’t mean I want to directly work for that platform
This post is disinformation.
And yet more proof from a recent study that you are wrong about social media:

No. I hope I never work for a tech company, honestly. I know that Uber and Google and all them are the cool kids on the Forbes 500 lists, but I can only stand so much of the dark side of this industry.
ACD2 sad but true 😔
Nope. Not knowing what I know now
I mean yeah probably. We go through this once a week or so but whatever client you have is doing something bad whether it’s wrecking the earth or using child slave labor or causing diabetes or testing on animals or exploiting the self esteem of young women or ripping people off or charging too much for treatment or whatever.
That, plus your clients are giving Facebook money anyway so it’s not like you can avoid them.
I leave it to the government to regulate these things, and believe they have a right to do so. I don’t think anybody working or not working in a marketing department is ever going to change anything. We’re just cogs.
Yes, they are breaking new ground every day and just because the community side is doing one thing you don’t like does not mean the entire company is consciously colluding.
Also: If you don’t like something you can either stick your head in the sand or go there and try and affect change.
Wait so you’re saying, politicians lie??????!
WK1 has it right. Advertising is Facebook’s profit center. This is an advertising bowl. If you work in this industry, unless you, annnndddd all of you’re clients are actively avoiding the 82 companies owned by Facebook then you’re supporting them.
Maybe it’s more noble to not take their money than it is to help them make more money... but is it?
What about their harvesting and profiting from the private data of unsuspecting users?
No.
Disinformation is on every platform.
While I think some kind of level of ethics should be upheld and we should regulate false claims or accusations, especially from foreign agendas it eventually comes down to how gullible the public chooses to be. Some people welcome a truth they want to hear no matter how ridiculous. They seek it out even.
Here is a recent study, among a long line of studies, that shows the conventional wisdom about about social media, Facebook, Russia, etc are wrong. This one is about right wing populism, echo chambers, and social media.
