You all think 35 is too late to jump into IB? I told my friend it will be near impossible.

They hired 1st year associates at my firm who were aged 40 who had never worked a corporate job before through a program. My best friend got in at 40 by applying. My other friend after an mba program at 35. I got in at 37 by applying.

In short, it is doable if you’re smart and know your sh!t.

That’s awesome! I really appreciate you sharing this so I can go back to my friend.

According to whose rules? Blindly spreading false information. If your friend really wants it, he/she can reach it by putting in the hard work and having the drive. Ageism doesn’t belong in the workplace and is not tolerated.

like

I work with more younger folks mid to late 20s. I wasn’t spreading “false” information. He asked for my opinion and I give it to him.

Possible, but definitely not the lifestyle I’d want at that age assuming coming in as a junior

like

That is also one of the reasons why I told him it will be very hard. Especially when you have kids and a wife at home. People in their 20s are more focused on climbing the corporate ladder.

I know people in BB who are mid 30s and just got in as associates. Tbh it's a huge investment with MBA and heightened risk factor of failure to capitalize on the MBA costs due to age to try for it, but it's been done before. Not sure at that point in my life I'd really want to, since any job background that would let you pivot in with an MBA probably doesn't pay much less and the quality if life is going to sharply decrease for several years as they rebuild their career post-pivot

like

Yrs it is impossible

Lol. 35 is not too late nor do you need some special background to get in assuming you’re pivoting during MBA. A candidate’s age doesn’t even cross my mind during recruiting—only how they perform during coffee chats and interviews.

I was wondering if the review course “CPE Self Study Course” for the CFF was enough preparation to study and pass the CFF exam. The CFE review course was enough and like if you get a question wrong it explains it well so that when it comes up in a different way in the real exam you can still get it. But when I saw the outline for the CFF material and there seems to be a lot of topics so I was wondering if the review course was sufficient considering this exam is also multiple choice. Thanks!

Additional Posts in Investment Banking - IBD

I can really use some direction. My background, I've worked 2 years in strategy and am currently coming off an exhausting year 2 in investment banking. I didn't particularly enjoy either role and am not interested in moving over to the buy-side or some monotonous FP&A role. Everybody says there's exit-ops aplenty, but I find myself with less options and even more picky than I did as an ambitious T2 undergrad student. Where do I go from here?
