Lately, it feels like burnout is just part of the job in finance, and everyone shrugs it off like it’s no big deal. Last week, I joked with a coworker about how I worked 70 hours and barely slept (even with the holiday), and they just said, “Same!” But is it? I can’t help wondering if we’re all just accepting something we shouldn’t. I’ve tried things like blocking off time for lunch or leaving by 7 PM twice a week, but it’s hard when the culture rewards constant hustle. Is this just how it is in our industry, or have you found ways to set boundaries without falling behind?

I’ve been wrestling with a career decision lately: is it better to be a big fish in a small pond or take a smaller role at a big-name company? Right now, I’m at a boutique firm where I have a lot of responsibility and my contributions are highly visible. But I’ve been approached about a role at a major institution—it’s a step down in title, but the name recognition and networking opportunities could be huge. Part of me worries about being lost in the shuffle, though. Have you faced this choice before? Which path did you take, and how did it shape your career?
