25 years into a career in Financial Services, I can say it is engrained in the culture and isn't going away. I see it driven by two core issues - First, the primary clients are Men - as we women, still lack taking an involved interest in Financial Investments and taking an active role in Planning and Investment decisions. Until that changes....then the culture doesn't have to change, because the client is happy. Second - and here's where we end up in this Chicken/Egg conundrum...Women aren't driven to careers in this sector, and when they are its not toward giving Advice, Planning or Managing Assets. We are still a negligent minority in this field. When we don't lead the charge, we won't change the business to meet women behaviorally where they want to be advised.

As a woman who has worked in no other industry - when I have a high standard for anything...I'm "difficult", when I question or call out something as needing to change...I'm "too aggressive", when I have a different opinion AND a proposed solution to a given business strategy...I'm "not a team player", when I solve issues quickly and without excessive need for a series of meetings....I "don't collaborate"

When Men do these identical things...they "hold the organization to a standard of excellence."....they "are disrupters in the industry not afraid to challenge the status quo."....they "lead autonomously, making swift decisions when needed"

The last are from job postings where I see firms asking for these traits...they want them, but they want them from men. Gender bias is real, it happens up front in the resume screening process, it happens in the interview. Its happened when I've literally used, verbatim, what someone has asked for in a job req....but I can see as I smile brightly describing my achievements in their own words...they think I'm probably "A Bitch to Work With"

This is so true. I have worked in other industries and have never noticed this except in industries that are male dominated. When a woman is assertive, she's "bossy." When a man is assertive, he's "confident." I work in Private Wealth and sometimes the entire department seems to be a huge frat party. There is certainly an "old boy's network" where personal connections matter slightly more than skills. We recently got a female department leader who is changing the culture quite a bit. I think more women on leadership positions makes a huge difference, the only difficulty is finding qualified ones because they are in such high demand.

I’ve definitely noticed this in finance as well. It’s tough when vulnerability isn’t valued and the culture pushes for constant competition. I try to lead by example, showing that collaboration and emotional intelligence are strengths. It’s hard, but I do think things have gotten a lot better in the last few years.

I do think things are changing though. Statistics show us that women have more college degrees and in many areas are out earning men. Smart companies are realizing that we are going through a demographic change and are focused on hiring more diverse employees for client-facing roles. I have had at least a handful of female clients tell me they prefer working with a female advisor.

Hello everyone!

Currently looking to jump from Health Care to Pharma/Biotech. Does anyone work at Gilead and can serve as a reference? The current department I’m in, I do not fit the culture as it is a very archaic way of “managing” people. I have about a decade of a variety of work experience, majority in customer service/coordination/administration.

Would love any assistance if possible!

Can anyone give me their honest opinion on working at Eli Lilly, the Indy site? I have a few coworkers that have worked there in the past but no one recently. I’m currently being recruited pretty seriously for a in-vivo technician position in the auto-immune team, but I already have a job lined up at Envigo as a small animal sx tech. Salaries would be comparable (Lilly would most likely be a little more with bonuses), but if the culture sucks, I’d hate to burn a bridge with Envigo.

Been interviewing for front end dev - 5YOE. Had been with Deloitte USI as a Consultant back in India. Applying for big 4's and tech firms but seems like they have been taking forever to review the applications (2-3 weeks now for few since applied!)

Have one offer from CGI as Sr.Con for 105k. Does anyone know how good/not good is CGI in terms of work, culture, WLB, perks?

Would appreciate any help in getting referred as well! Thank you
