Thoughts on ‘power dressing’ and confidence? I’ve always believed in “dress for the job you want,” but recently, I’ve started wondering where the line is between confident and over-the-top. On days when I wear a tailored blazer, heels, or even a bold color, I feel unstoppable—like I own the room. But once, a coworker joked, “Wow, big presentation today?” when I was just dressed for a regular meeting, and it made me second-guess myself. Does power dressing actually help with perception and confidence, or is it all in my head? And how do you balance standing out versus blending in at work?

If you like it and it is giving you that extra pep in your step, I think you should absolutely keep doing it! There will always be somebody to say something, and I would hate for that to rain on your parade so to say. When I did remote work I noticed how much not getting dressed and ready for the day actually impacted my work.

This is a great question. I agree with the comment above that it's really all about how it makes you feel. But I do feel like too bold of colors or standing out too much can make you somewhat of a target, so I would say set some kind of perimeter for yourself and then have fun within that perimeter

This year I’ve come to realize that “I have to set my standard.” Do what helps you be effective and be confident. After I had my realization, I added more polish to my attire and it’s been helpful when I’ve unexpectedly interacted with upper management.
I believe that the effort to be more polished and effective will be rewarded. Don’t let others’ words or thoughts discourage you. You don’t want to remain where you are, you want to grow.

Have you seen women wear ties and "masculine"-looking suits to work? Was it accepted by client and team? I've never worn a tie to work, but when I've worn clothing that had a more "masculine" fit either in grad school or some work environments, I've gotten comments and looks, or sometimes asked (or people gossiped) about my orientation. When I wear more "feminine"-looking clothing, I feel more more uncomfortable and awkward. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I need some advice. I have some co workers that are really disgruntled and complain about their jobs a lot to me. It really bring me down and makes it hard for me to work because I get constant messages about how much they hate it here. I’m friends with them outside of work so I don’t want to explode on them. What do you recommend I do/say to them? I want our friendship to last but I can’t stand how they talk right now. And honestly some of their bitching is valid but some isn’t imo.

Confession: I used to have a F co-worker who had bad body odor (the raw type that can be masked with deodorant or good hygiene). Others including F co-workers were making fun of her behind her back. Hello, I have a question that needs your inputs how to handle. I am working with a post-MBA Associate on a project and this person seems to do extra work beyond what the team is asking the rest of us to do. I think during our conversations with the leadership, there were a couple of points that were brought up by the MD but that was not a concrete directive that we need to do because if it is, I would know about it from the chain email since I am staffed to the project.
