What do you do on Monday to get your week set up? I feel like I spend so much time helping my team get their pipelines in shape for the week / setting up a plan.

How do you ask for a raise? And I do mean quite literally what words do you say. I have a mid year review coming up and I want to ask. Just finished my first year, started at a very low salary (65k) for defense litigation associate and no raise yet. I am in a state where wages are lower than the big cities but I still think this is too low given partners make 250k-500k/year. Thanks.
My team has made tremendous efforts during the pandemic to ensure the safety of all facilities and people in our region as we resume in-office activity. Predicated on confidentiality, my colleague went to HR with negative feedback re a specific leader’s flexibility with the *mandatory* PPE protocol. The HR Manager went directly to the leader and gave the feedback along w my colleagues name. Since that day she’s been heavily “taxed.” HR has a responsibility to protect anonymity. How to handle?
Partner, senior associate (of 15 years), and their families just video-chatted with me from a beautiful villa in Europe. Meanwhile, I'm at my desk staring at the computer screen. 🤦🏼♂️ Thanks?
For those of you who like me experience a complete lack of mentorship from partners in your PG who are also just overall toxic and demeaning no matter what you do, what do u do? Go to HR? PGL? Mentor?
Has anyone had a request to terminate an employee after they returned from a leave of absence? What was your experience like?
Looking for learning recommendations (CLEs, books, videos, websites etc.) that would help a first year/young associate. Looking for either content that will help give you tips that are helpful as a whole or more specifically substantive info for a plaintiff’s personal injury attorney. Most stuff I find is for experiences trial attorneys and I’d love to learn more substantively the ins and outs on the work up of the case. Thanks!!
I’m studying for the Texas bar using Barbri. I am from a good school in the state (T50) and performed well there, but I am terrified that I am going to fail the bar. Any tips, tricks, advice on how you made it through? Is Barbri enough?
Received reply in other thread in response to concerns about the effect my work was having on mental health (have GAD/clinical depression). Thoughts? Discouraged about my longevity in this field...
Is anyone looking for a trial tech?? I have a great company I’d love to recommend! They do trial technology, help with voir dire, help with case strategy, and do all video editing!
Looking for some advice here. I am starting a tax llm program at a top ranked program but don’t have a background in tax or business. What are my chances of being hired at a good place? I am not T14 not even close but did pretty well in law school. I’m so nervous right now. TIA.
At law firms that restrict their lawyers’ personal securities trading, how are those policies enforced?
Wetheaction.org just announced a racial justice task force for those wanting to help out. I've been doing pro bono projects with them for a few years and I encourage you all to register.
I'm in securities law and I'm joining a investment firms regulatory solutions group. Is that too compliance or do you think I'm still going to have enough prestige.
It just happens that this week I spent a fair amount of time negotiating with clients/potential clients on legal fees - and it is exhausting. I am less than 2 years in private practice...
I don’t understand why partners and clients get so angry and pissy if you ask them a question (and I’m not talking like lots of piecemeal questions). I know you’re busy and you’re paying me to solve your problems but I also need information from you to do my job...
Are there any downsides to engaging with recruiters just to see what else is out there? Very happy at my firm, but the potential of an additional $60K/yr (minimum) is hard to ignore.
Our M has suddenly started assigning us firm initiative work, like creating account newsletters for the internal team. (Think about a long email with tips about WFH, exercise, hobbies, and other nonsense). We've tried to politely tell him we have project work to address and that the new monthly newsletter is frankly not a priority and that it's impeding billable work. He has screwed team members over during reviews for but listening to everything he says. I'm really not sure what to do. Advice?
Weekly traveler 🐟 prior to Covid-19, does it not feel pointless now that we have done wfh for a bit? Thinking back to the 2x flights a week and staying in hotels 150+ nights a year seems silly to me.
Any feedback on Director strategy role in Philips Amsterdam? Currently a Manager (or Senior Manager as per recent title changes) at Bain. Comp, culture, work etc...
Been in public accounting for about 4 years, thinking about Management Consulting. I have an MBA and 2/4 CPA exams, what are my chances of getting sponsored for a green card?
How many LEK’ers are going to jump ship when things settle? I can’t imagine the forced PTO is great for morale.
Rated highly effective, bucket 2 (1 being highest, out of 5). No promotion, so now I’m a third year analyst. Is this a red flag? I’m in FDD, transferred after 1 year in audit.
I signed the offer from a big 4 firm but was recently approached by another recruiter for a role I really like and their total comp is higher. Should I go ahead with the interview?
Is it worth going to a top MBA program and switching from IBM/Accn/Big 4 to MBB for the brand/stamp (internship)? Will it help with post-MBA PE/VC full-time options?
Has anyone had luck transferring Amtrak points to a hotel chain or airlines? Starting a new project for 8 weeks with Amtrak commute.
What’s do the typical exit roles to industry look like for an M from D with 8-10 YOE? I feel like the only traction I’m seeing is for Senior Program Manager roles for non-FAANG companies (San Diego based FWIW). Are these just a lateral move or a downgrade since these are all individual contributor roles?
Ladies 🐠 Need recommendations for affordable simple fine jewelry brands - specifically, I’m hoping to get necklaces that stack and good for travel Thanks!
Now that the Chase Freedom Unlimited is getting 3% cash back on dining and 5% on travel, is it still worth keeping the CSR?
Has anyone got their visa stamping done from Canada instead of india? If yes, how long did it take to get visa? Also, Any risks in getting visa from Canada vs india
Never realized how well referrals work. Been referring all my friends to D and they’ve been landing interviews and offers. While I had to wait a year for my first interview. 🙂
When you’re the only Vet on the team and the partner tells you to be on site* this Monday despite Veterans Day being a client holiday *client office is closed, I need to be at our office in that city
Literally saw a job posting that was just posted 5 HOURS AGO, some no name startup with only 51-200 employees, 289 APPLICANTS?!? This is like the 10th posting I’ve seen like this the past 2 days where there are more applicants than employees within hours of posting. Like wtf....how am I supposed to compete on any of these apps (and don’t say referral because I don’t know someone at every company and honestly all my referral applications haven’t worked). Great motivation on a Monday 😭
How can I mute my laptop when I’m sharing my screen in a Skype meeting, without hitting mute on the Skype meeting itself?
