Take a trip somewhere abroad for a week. Tell them you take a break from work for a year and was traveling. If asked, just say you were visiting x/y/z country.

Honestly I told a lot of people that I tried to run my own business. Usually something like e-commerce or online marketing etc.

Lolol. No. I do have a LLC created after I got laid off in 2020 just incase.
Given today's climate and how long it is taking the average person to get a job, that attitude is really insensitive to candidates.
As a suggestion, you can state you experienced a career gap due to market conditions, with the market slowdown affecting opportunities in your field. You also say you took the initiative to invest in your skill set by pursuing a some courses and or certifications and attend to an unforseen family emergency.
I wish you well, it is hard out here.
Aim lower. Any job is better than no job.
I couldn’t be unemployed for more than a week before I’d be working fast food or retail.
I wouldn't take any low paying job. If they ask and the answer is something like fast food then it would raise more questions
Sing up for some SaaS courses through Coursera and do the trip like SD1 said! When you take your trip, you can keep the discussions lighthearted AND sell that you are an explorer
Tell them you were taking care of a sick parent but now they dead and you’re back on the market
Actually happened to me as well.. except the gap was 5 years and after applying for literally 400 jobs im still looking

Might be a good time to go back to school. Wait out the market and add some value to your resume. Could just say you took some time off before starting school
Tell about some learning, trainings, personal projects, or skill building you have done during your employment gap.
Could also make up an independent consulting position. Basically impossible to verify 1099 work

The unfortunate reality is that your best option is to lie and say your mom got cancer and you were taking care of her until she passed. No recruiter could possibly fault you for that. Sucks that we have to play the game this way, but it is what it is
Voluntary sabbatical, family care, travel abroad/other place …..get creative with reasons. Also , if not done already, get an external professional to review your resume and the types of roles you’re applying for. Maybe you need a change in your approach and are too close to it. Good luck and best wishes.
Did you work at Mastercard Advisors Client Services?
Yessss
What is your response when they ask?
So you have been looking for 4 months - not 10. So say you took that opportunity to return home and take care of some family business, You have been back since April, did some serious research into the job market, companies, what you wanted to accomplish, what would be the best approach to achieve those goals and evaluating job opportunities. You specifically targeted - the place you are interviewing and why. Then follow with a question about the company or job to help squash follow-up questions.
Look at temp gigs like consulting. Once you’ve done one, you can truthfully say you’ve done consulting and the duration won’t matter as much. Plus it may lead to more work.
