Definitely let your manager know so they can re-allocate work if needed. It’d be a burn to both of you without communicating this ahead of time. Good luck on the medical treatment
Fear of it being used against me and shame. Still very sensitive about the whole diagnosis to begin with
Why wouldn’t you tel your manager? Life happens to us all. It may not change your job expectations but at least they’ll understand if you struggle to meet them or have to take some sick days. I’m getting divorced and told my manager and her manager about it just as a heads up if I seem flaky or come in late this month. I was shocked how supportive they both were tbh.
I just went through this. I have a lot of opinions - pros & cons about this. At then end of the day though, once you step away to focus on your health, you end up not caring about anything else. It absolutely affected my career though.
That’s one of my biggest fears- I don’t want to treated less than. Or given kid gloves. I know I could work 12 hours/day and do anything with the right mindset and a coffee! But the physical surely affects the mental. And when I can’t even walk right or keep my head up or even eat anything, I know this will impact my work. I know I’ll eventually burn out.
