6 mos into my first OSR role at MSP and panicking. I have a analyst background, no formal sales experience, and zero management since the sales lead was fired week 2.
I fell into analysis paralysis, but fixing my metrics now. I built a pipeline alone—took multiple $8k MRR deals to the 1-yard line—but they fell through on price. Now I'm on a July ultimatum to close a deal and get 3 on-sites.
Base is $35k, commission is 1st month's MRR only (no project split).
Is this job broken, or salvageable?

Is your product a market leader? If you have low .market share then get out! Sounds like you are selling on pr alone, which is not good.

I wish I could’ve provided all the details but I was limited in how long the post could be. I would say our company is one of the top MSPs in the area going off of client testimonials and client retention. We’re certainly not invincible though and there are plenty of competitors.

I don’t think we’re quite as bad as selling on pr alone, but IMO our marketing does need to be a lot more active. After my boss fired my sales manager, he also split the marketing persons role down the middle—making her both a marketing specialist and an ”executive coordinator”!! We should be running campaigns quarterly, and our Marketing should be highly customized rather than copy pasted from what our consulting team sends us.

Without focused marketing to maintain a healthy funnel of leads, a lot of it gets left up to me, and I’m only just NOW beginning to realize how much I needed to be hustling to make up for where our activities are lacking.

We do have an outsourced SDR starting this week too, and I’m hopeful that’ll be helpful in getting me in front of more prospects.

I just don’t know if the fixes are going to happen soon enough to satisfy my boss (or me, for that matter!)

Been with Big Four advisory (GRC) for 10 years. Really tired of meaningless “consulting” and commoditized implementations. Recently been through a rough job search and finally landed an offer with a mid size bank in their risk practice. The pay is good but I’ve seen a handful of websites with employee rating that is really bad. Each site has roughly 10 reviews but most are negative. Trying to figure out if I should start as an inbound SDR, or try jumping straight into an AE role in SaaS.

I left mortgages at the beginning of the year to start a franchise business, it's now semi-self-sufficient so wanted to start a career again and I live in the Silicon Slopes area. Everyone I know is in SaaS or software engineering.

Just wondering if I should push my resume as far as possible and try to snag an AE role or take my time in a new industry and start from the bottom.

/160k OTE role out of Plano TX

I’m intrigued but I want to know 2 things:
1. Culture/WLB - how is it?
2. Realistic market opportunity/opportunity to crush quota (obv dependent on many things)
