If you inherited 800k in this current economy, how would you invest it? Buying or paying out most of your first home, investing in savings account for the high interest, mutual fund, investment advisor, or what else?

It would completely depend on how your finances were set up before you got the 800k.

Nothing for at least 12 months if there is any emotion tied to how you inherited it outside of HYSA. MIL got pressured into buying g 500k of annuity. Don’t be my MIL for annuity or whole life. Best case do nothing and make 8k less to make a decision of sound mind. You’re e still up ~$824k from where you were 13 months prior with just looking at it (5% HYSA).

There are other investment options such as stocks, bonds, real estate investment trusts (REITs), venture capital, gold, and more. You may consider diversifying a portion of your money into different asset classes to reduce risk.

Index funds and chill, at least for now. Maybe put some money towards treasury notes for the tax advantages.

When interest rates start to trend downward, I might look to buy a property or two. But I don’t think that will happen for 12 to 24 months.

I also don’t have credit card debt, have very low rates on my mortgages, and max out my tax advantaged accounts. If you aren’t in that same position, I’d explore those options first.

I would play it smart and drop it in a 3 HYSA for now and keep $50k to pay any debt off and have fun

Depends. How old are you? What debt and/or assets do you have? Any bug expenses coming up?
There are so many ways to play this, but much depends on where you’re at now.

I’m seeing lots of posts about really bad losses. If you trade you’re going to lose money - hopefully not all the time, but many positions will be mistakes. But you need a process to find ideas and manage positions. Two books you should read are “The New Trading for a Livinng” and “The Laws of Trading.” Both look at psychology, process, and risk in different ways that can help you work out your own process. The next 18 months will be much harder than the last 18 - time to start learning.

Can someone point me to some material where I can read about profit sharing vs 401k. I get the concept, but I am trying to understand is 10% profit sharing vested over 5 years better than an employee 401k match of 6%?

From my understanding 10% PS is better because it’s just a standard 10% on top of whatever I contribute though it takes 5 years to vest. Does this mean if I leave before 5 years I don’t get any of it?
