A new assistant at our firm (A1) has been constantly gossiping to my boss about other assistants. This has really shaped my boss’s behavior towards the other assistants. Yesterday, A1 asked me a tragically unimportant question 4x while I was trying to work, which I ignored. Apparently, she went to my boss 3-4x to complain that I was unresponsive lol. Is this something I should address? It seems like she is constantly trying to backstab & undermine…maybe to get ahead or something?

Why didn’t you just respond, “I am on a deadline right now so do not have time to substantively address this, but I will reply,” or let you know if the question was not raised in an email, “tomorrow/at end of day,” depending on your timeframe. Being responsive is important and it takes two seconds to acknowledge you were asked a question. With people like this, don’t get toxic with them, just model the behavior you would like them to exhibit which is to be professional. At my firm, if someone asked me something 4x and I ignored it, they too would be upset unless I was in a deposition or had my OOO on, or something like that.

We had an important project stakeholders meeting for which I prepared a presentation, delivered the presentation and answered some difficult questions in the Q&A. I ensured a few of the stakeholders that I'd follow up with some interesting links.
I prepared an email to follow up which was a collation of links, white papers in attachment etc which took the morning to put together. My colleague, who is a male who had initially set up the meeting and chaired it was to send the minutes after. (1)

I just found out a new colleague was brought on at 20% higher salary than my current salary. (Have been w/ firm 1.5 years) She doesn’t have a 4-year degree (working on it). How do I bring this inequity up and ask to be compensated equally? I have years more experience and My work is more complex - she is basically a receptionist. Any suggestions would be helpful!

I'm starting to feel more and more like the instructions I'm getting and what the target market will actually respond to aren't matching up. I'm new to this company and they talked a lot about wanting a fresh perspective etc, but that isn't reflected in their feedback in any way. Beginning to get frustrated and I feel like it's undermining my position as well.

I recently started a job this past November as a Clinical Informatics Supervisor at a fairly large healthcare organization. The women working under me at the healthcare organization are twice my age. I can honestly say from day one I felt excluded. I experienced multiple occasions of insubordination and quite honestly, bullying. Now I’m being pushed out of my position, not fired. Now they have me sitting and doing nothing all day. I don’t know what to do.

Hi Everyone, need some advice. The only reason why I took my current role is because my direct supervisor would be a black woman VP- I was obviously excited because I've never worked with another black woman before. She's been out on maternity leave since September and I've had to cover her role and do my job, which is two levels above mine and supervising someone above my level. Yesterday the SVP tells me they found a new VP (ww) who would be my new boss.

Really looking for a way to turn around a toxic building culture with staff to staff bullying, cliques/social isolation, hard feelings on big topics (racism, non acceptance of gender identity). Last year the staff polarized with the lead bully whom I helped leave. And the lead gossip (who was my secretary) that gained their sympathy and turned them against me. She also left. Now I need to regain trust and eliminate unacceptable teacher behaviors. Open to any and all advice.

I was working at a Hotel one night & I saw a man appearing on two different floors, then in the stairwell. The man was in his 70’s or 80’s. He was wearing nothing but tidy whiteys. When he got to the front desk I asked “is everything alright? Are you okay?” (Assuming he may be senile),He wasn’t senile, he went swimming & wanted to make me uncomfortable and started to flirt while in his sopping wet see through tidy whiteys- and of course I had to clean up the water he tracked through the lobby.

I am only 4 months into being a surgical coordinator. I love the position itself however I am struggling to adapt into my new work environment. My position puts me in a place where I need to interact with my new coworkers but they are not as welcoming as I expected. There is also another surgical coordinator however I have come to find from other staff that there is a long history of her running other staff away and not fully training other surgical coordinator staff properly. Any suggestions?

Monday Morning rumination: unsolicited advise is criticism.

Much to reflect on with this topic. Last week I was told in a 1:1 with a new contact that I was “too direct”. After some time chewing on the conversation I was struggling to place the emotions I was feeling. Turns out I was feeling guilty and shame for being me, for taking up space. Lesson of the week: unsolicited advice is a criticism of you, a micro aggression of who you are, and being “too much”. What would you do??

Last week team dynamics took a turn for the worst (even tho in each retro the team always commend each other, you would think team work is great). Team members get agitated with each other for being slow. Team members coming across rude and brash (the same ones are difficult to get hold to offer support, time is money is what someone said💰, the craziest was the client accidently sharing her whatsapp screen, commenting on people's feedback to what she was presenting OMG 😲 How was your week?

I have a virtual interview tomorrow through Teams - 1) what is appropriate to wear for a video interview? Should I treat it as an in person and wear a blazer? 2) I’ve used teams plenty on my work computer but never on my personal computer/through my personal email - any ideas on how to make sure it works? And 3) just any advice/tips in general, first interview since college!

So, I hate my job. For years I’ve been trying to work through nitty gritty and minutiae in the hopes that sorting out those details would “fix” my dissatisfaction. I’ve switched jobs a few times and dabbled in a few practice areas. But I’ve realized I just hate practicing law. Is there any reason to tell your boss or supervisor that you’re miserable? My assumption is no. They won’t fix things. So why would you? Any reason I should reconsider? (P.S. looking for an exit, but that’s not settled.)
