Move dilemma:
Currently @ Arthur D. Little Limited Dubai as SE Manager w/ base comp of 285k $ + 10-15% bonus. Vert limited fit w/ people & projects in the region (MEI) & not motivated by seniors. Not happy w/ the job but good WLB. Very likely to promote to Pr which would include a 20-30% jump in total comp but shift to more variable
Move to MBB as PL. Projects & people are supposed to be great and he could see himself in the long run. Comp is 170k $ + 60% bonus. Will take 1.5y to move to Pr

That is an unprofessional response. I hope it wasn’t as crude and direct of a response as you said in the post. People, especially partners, don’t forget this kind of behavior. Sorry to say, but unless you are a rockstar which based on your response doesn’t look likely, if layoffs happen, that partner will recommend you.
Makes your response even worse.

This is a stupid post by an immature young adult that didn’t happen.
Let’s be 100% real. The ask is that you get trained on key topics that person is leading to provide some bridge support. Probably means attending a few meetings a week, learning a spreadsheet or two.
The ask is help support team, not double your workload. If you’re at 100% already, the correct response from a mature adult is- got it, would love to support the team, right now my bandwidth is already stretched on xyz, can we talk about pieces we can deprioritize together to support the new work.

bro really thinks he got a zinger there 💀

Dude you’d be out of my team so fast. I mean I’d respect you maybe a smidge, but you’d be totally off my team for sure.
SM1 i would gladly be out of your team lmfao
I love how not one person has said that the consultant was right . If he's expected to pick up slack for another person , he better be compensated for it .
With that said , definitely a ballsy move lol.
Completely agree - I signed up for 40-60 hours a week. I did not sign up for 80-120 hours to cover someone else’s dreams
Decent chance I’d roll you off and have you fired
I think anyone who joined consulting should know that it’s not a 9-5 job. If you’re doing 40-45 hours of work a week and then refusing to take on more work unless you get paid more then MDP has the right to roll you off for that attitude.

There’s easier ways to go to the bench
Please advise..

How does someone with so little tact get into consulting?

Your firm is full of them

If you are the PP, god help OP. LOL
bro in THIS economy? … ur a savage for that. Mad respect tho
I hope your company has good severance package policy. Also, save vacation days, they will add to your severance package.
Also, don’t make any big purchases or sign a real estate contract, almost any loan that needs actual job.
Tell me about a time when you went above and beyond.
If you ask him, he will say he is delivering the project single handedly

OP, what you did is standing up for yourself. It's clear from many a responses here that the herd mentality of picking up the slack for free is the way to get promoted, avoid the bench, get 5 star ratings etc. etc. is rampant and considered acceptable. The entire system has been corrupted by weak and bullies together
Indeed, when OP is collecting their unemployment they can feel proud that they really showed the system. Thanks OP!
Consulting is simply a paid MBA. You should be begging for more and complex work. The sole purpose of consulting is to fast track knowledge acquisition so you can chart your own career path. You aren’t doing extra work for the firm you are doing it to learn. In addition, it depends on the person. Some partners I will run through a brick wall for others I would push into traffic.
I would have rolled you off and never used you again.
Wow p3 your level of professionalism is adorable
I'd have liked to be there to see the look on the partner's face!
OP, you are right overall, but you said the quiet part out loud. I dont see this as a career ending mistake, but it probably cost you a glowing review and top bonus. Then again, working twice as hard for another 10% would not be worth it anyway.
It's two months, they were unreasonable to him. If it was for one week I would take it, but that kind of thing is too big for a favor. I'm thinking that the people here are downplaying what kind of shit it's to be asked to do twice the work for two fucking months, close to the year's end at that.
He probably made this all up lol
Man don't destroy the immersion 🤦
What's the correct way to respond? No one has answered in the comments
