The IB is well known. I’d be able to go pretty much anywhere after. Thinking about taking the money and seeing how I like it for 2-3 years.
Think that sounds like a good move. 👍🏻
Can you take the offer back to KPMG and see if they will match? Can you also check to see if they will be flexible with travel now that you have a newborn on the way? If the answer is no to any of these questions I would take the new job. Even if it’s only for a year or two. Back office sucks. But for 30% increase it could be worth it.
Go for it! Spending time with your baby is priceless, you’ll never get it back.
I’m Mon-Thur travel right now. New job is virtually no travel.
Jump ship. M-Thur travel with a kiddo stinks. For you, baby, and mom. You can always come back down the road if you miss it
Get off the road - I’m not even on it yet - and seriously dreading it. The first two years of a child’s life- you do not want to be gone M-Th, others may have opinions on this...but if you have a ROCK solid spouse who truly wants you to do that (if it’s best for your career and you are a single earning household) then maybe it could work. Just take like 6 months off for sure when baby is born if you plan to travel.
I would do it. You’re getting a substantial raise, will have the ability to be around your new baby and help with bedtime every night. One of the things that bothers me the most on the nights I’m away from home is not being able to read her bedtime books before she goes down for the night.
They’re also buying out all my ECIB for the next 2 years and my Annual this year...so I feel like it’s a win win?
What is ecib? And what do you mean they are buying your annual?
They’re buying out All my bonuses, including my retention bonus (ECIB) that I would would forfeit if I left the firm.
Got it. Awesome.
Accenture 1 - we are a two income household. I earn about 50% more than my wife (plus bonus). Need more information before I make a decision but this is all very helpful. Going to check to see if KPMG can get me an alternative work arrangement for the first six months after the kid is born. Maybe a local project. Also the job at the IB is a specific skill set, might not be transferable.
OP - I work for big 4 and my group ensured I would stay local while baby is newborn. I haven’t really traveled since baby was born. I’m sure yours will do the same. But remember this could hurt your career trajectory.
Going to talk to my Partner who I work with to see what they can do, but it’s going to be hard to walk away from the raise and the signing bonus. Thanks everyone!
How much signing bonus may I ask?
