In my opinion, you should step up in a challenging time for your company, show how valuable you are, and then ask for the raise/bonus based on that performance? Asking in advance might come across like you are taking advantage of the situation. Also, what happens if you ask in advance and they say no? Are you leaving while your colleague needs your help the most? Tons of potential long term benefits with this situation if you play your cards right.

Implementation of 606, purchase price adjustments for acquisitions, any and all random accounting questions that arise, prep of the consolidated FS (25 entities). She has it worse than me because she has to communicate with the CFO and CEO at all hours of the day/night/weekends. She is going on maternity leave in February for 3 months and I will be responsible for filling her role in her absence which will be cumbersome with year-end and annual audit. Do I negotiate a salary increase or look at it as a good growth opportunity?
I am a woman which is why I wanted the advice to see “what a man would do” in this situation. Thank you for confirming my thinking!
What about a bonus as opposed to salary increase?
