If you’re someplace where the ACD title is basically a glorified senior creative, without any real leadership opportunities or expectations, then you probably need to make a lateral move. Or you could try carving that niche at your current place, but it’s usually much harder to do that.
And if you can, I'd still take those management classes or read some management 101 books out there 'cause this stuff is not trivial or just a learn-on-job-by-experimenting-with-people's-careers type of thing :)
You can't even ask to practice managing? ACD level you're usually overseeing someone aren't you?
Barring that maybe you need to get another ACD role where they let you manage and work your way up there.
It’s a unique set up with a small team and I agree, a lateral move is probably necessary. Was thinking of taking management workshops and looking for mentoring opportunities in the meantime, hoping that’s the next best thing to hands-on. Appreciate your response!
