As a mom of two who kept working, I’ve always admired those who were able to step away and fully focus on raising their kids... I work from home, so I get this idea that only you can take care of them. Be being 100% mom, It’s something I’ve never had the chance to do, and I imagine it comes with its own set of strengths. You’ve been managing a household, solving problems, staying organized: all things that transfer into any workplace. I get that the gap feels like a barrier, but honestly, your experience as a parent brings a level of perspective and resilience that’s hard to teach. Maybe it’s not about “explaining the gap,” but showing how that time shaped you into someone even more capable.
I was a SAHM as well. Trust me, you have not lost your skills but have only gained additional skills AND patience. You have managed the household, budgeted, scheduled, designated, supervised, been a self starter...the list goes on and on. Brainstorm about all the things you did in a month and write them down. Then think about how all those duties can apply to the job you are currently seeking. Be willing to go back to an entry level job with the goal of moving upward and onward as you prove yourself.
Be encouraged, pray and ask God about it, read Psalms 23.
