Maybe both! I try not to check it too often because it just stresses me out and accomplishes nothing. Don't focus on the things you can't control :)

If you don’t need the money today, then why does it matter?
VTI is up 2% over the last month, 7% over the last 3 months, 15% year to date, and 100% over the last 5 years. Yes, there has been some volatility in between. That’s why most people suggest putting money into the market only if you can leave it alone for at least 5 years.
I only check about once a quarter, and usually because I’m curious.
The attitude of checking daily / weekly is a bit ridiculous. You’re what, 35? Not withdrawing for another 15 years minimum?
39.. not going to do anything about it obvi but I’m still curious on a day to day basis. A girl can dream that one day it just might pop +200k in one day

Becoming numb to the daily shifts is probably a really positive thing. Keep yours eyes focused on the long term.

It only really matters if it’s over 10% and you’re near / or recently retired.
If you’re saving for the long term, you should numb to daily changes as they don’t matter that much.
