A&M or AlixPartners? I’m interviewing with both in PEPI and Enterprise Improvement. Thoughts on which is better group for comp plus work?

I did interview with both, but it wasn't for Enterprise Improvement. From my limited experience with A&M, I know comp is based on hours billed and collected for payment. I expect this means everyone works to death and wouldn't care about helping others since it reduces their billables. AlixPartners is probably the best bonus (20-30% of base). The culture is really fighting to be less cut throat and more inclusive/improve WLB. They've renamed their titles to align better with industry and they are pushing to grown a ton.

Choose a company for the work and the people that you meet. Comp isn't going to make much of a difference to your quality of life after a certain point, but the people that you work with and the work that you do will.

AP all the way!

Any reason why? Did you interview at both? Thoughts on enterprise improvement?

I think theyre roughly the same.

Does PEPI do non-PE work? EI does corporates too, albeit a majority of our work is generated by PE anyway.

I would argue that our bonus pool is a minimum of ~25% and has a wide range (I received 50% last year). I expect A&M to be similarly compensated.

Lastly, I think we have a stronger/broader reputation in the market although this could be an entirely biased view from my position.

AP2 - can you share what level you are?

@ OP SVP

Thanks. What would associate and VP bonus ranges be?

Its all the same, man. Maybe different for directors but doesn't look like it in my limited experience in discussing comp with some directors.

PEPI does PE 95% of the time. Usually send any corporates to other A&M units. A&M bonus can often be 100%+ of base. Culture is very entrepreneurial and I’ve never seen any issues with billing hours. From my limited experience it seems as though we’re growing exponentially in the PE world and taking a lot business and employees away from b4 and others.

AP2..what are the titles at AlixPartners? Is it Associate, VP, Director, MD.

That's what it used to be, M2.
Now it's Consultant, VP, SVP, Director, (sometimes Snr Director), MD.

Thanks AP2. Can you share the range of base comp for SVP?

I don't know - our comp is not very transparent. I think it's because there is a large range, I'm guessing $150-250K base. It's probably comparable to your experience and maybe negotiating skills.

@AP2.... That + 50% performance bonus is WOW.. higher than an SM pay at a Big 4.

I would assume it's higher than Big 4 pay. Our bill rates are comparable to McK and typically higher than the BCG and Bain.

AP2- this is super helpful. Do you think the title changes and adding another layer have been helpful?

Yet to be proven IMHO, OP! I think the SVP title sounds stupid as the banking convention is already contradictory to industry, and the SVP title just makes it worse. However, I do recognize that our VP>SVPs do have a lot more experience than your typical M/SM levels, which was I assume the case for the title adjustment.
