You definitely don't want to go in with that mindset! People can feel desperate vibe or negative energy even if not consciously able to pinpoint what it is but you can tell in your gut a confident versus not candidate.
Know that what you're feeling is normal but also unhelpful. Remember and connect with the feeling of excitement you feel for the company. The counter point of "I'm nervous" is saying to yourself "I'm excited"
Never talk about what you're running away from - they're not there to solve your problems, you're there to solve theirs. You wouldn't get called if you weren't qualified - and you also didn't get to where you are now by osmosis either so remember that too.
Right down for your own motivation 3 accomplishments or high points in your career you're most proud or fond of to uplift yourself and read them before the interview. Summarize in only 3 sentences what you're looking for and what you bring that's unique to you. Avoid big words / cliche industry jargon like "strategic thinker" nonsense style overused hollow terms. Say what you want to convey in adult and professional and thoughtful but still normal human terms (strategic thinker = I'm able to see the big picture behind complex issues and connect the dots of it all) I just made that up to illustrate a point, not saying it's the best but the vibe is more human and less robotic than the big word cliches
You got this and if you don't, it was great practice and a chance to network and create relationship for future opps. Do not obsess over getting the job and you just might! Best of luck!
Where is the fear coming from?
Agree! Stay focused and positive. Preparation is key and makes me feel so much more confident when interviewing. Can you get a career coach to help you out? They can usually help perfect your craft.
Maybe the other jobs didn’t pan out because you were meant for this dream role instead. The fact that you want it badly is just positive energy that you can harness and use to your advantage. Let your passion for this role be apparent. I personally want to hire people I can tell really want to be here because I know I’m going to get so much from them: work ethic, culturally, etc. Don’t focus on rejection. Focus on why this is YOUR job. You already know it is. If you do that, they will see it’s your job, too.
I agree with that, too. I guess some of it depends on the other side / hiring manager thinking the way you do and this being a mutual fit. My only additional point from my comment earlier is to not become fixated on this being the one and only "dream" job (I strongly advise against this idealized notion, it's such a recipe for anxiety and/or disappointment). But yes, absolutely show sincere enthusiasm, just don't hang all your hopes and dreams on it or let it become a weakness when exploring salary benefits and work responsibilities. Be enthusiastic and still explore if it's the right fit with open eyes. It's a balance. OP, keep us posted:)
I do that to myself all the time. Don’t do that to you! ENJOY this amazing opportunity and be mindful and live the present- don’t go down the rabbit hole of the what if... you’ll be amazing. The company that you dreamed of wants to talk to you. That’s an ego booster. Good luck. 🍀
