I started a new job recently and then had my PTSD seriously triggered, plus a panic attack. Felt so on edge and low on emotional resources for over a week that I wasn’t myself and apparently really rubbed a few people the wrong way so I was called in for a talking to 😣. I let people know there were some personal things going on, but didn’t mention the PTSD—very unsure if that’s something to share, or if I’d be judged for it or... I don’t even know. I am a junior associate actively looking to lateral. I feel bad knowing I’m going to completely blindside my Partners and practice group with the two week notice whenever I get an offer. Should I tell the group that I’m looking/interested in exploring other opportunities? The firm has been great, but I’m moving to another market in which they don’t have an office.

I work at a ‘free market’ firm and have developed a very good reputation among partners. Naturally, they are drowning me in work. Each time a new case comes up, the partner will email asking if I have “time and interest” in helping. When I’m at capacity, I take these words at face value and explain why I can’t do it, and that seems to work out ok with no hard feelings. But what’s the “interest” thing? If I don’t want to work on a toxic tort case, do I just say that and pass?

A partner I work for keeps asking for ETA's on assignments I have already submitted to the senior associate on the deal for review. Does it sound like I'm throwing the senior associate under the bus if I say I have already submitted to senior associate and am waiting for feedback? I feel like the partner will get upset at me even more if my answer sounds like I haven't submitted the assignment to the senior associate yet.

My firm’s IT (especially system saving and file locating function) is so bad 😐😞 and they keep doing updates no one asked them for just to mess with the stuff we already got a hang of without doing anything about the issues we actually need fixed. Anyone else in a similar boat? Do you bill the client for the time it takes to fix the IT issue (or IT inefficiency generally, like time taken to find a file in a convoluted system)? Or is that supposed to be our non-billable time?

How do you get good at thinking on your feet? I find I always need time to think and analyse before being able to answer client queries (even those that are considered simple by others). I don't want to rush and get it wrong. I avoid phone calls for this reason which isn't great when you're in the service industry so it's starting to impact my career.
