I am a junior associate actively looking to lateral. I feel bad knowing I’m going to completely blindside my Partners and practice group with the two week notice whenever I get an offer. Should I tell the group that I’m looking/interested in exploring other opportunities? The firm has been great, but I’m moving to another market in which they don’t have an office.

I've been working at this company for about 3.5 weeks now. Its been great so far.

We have an org chart in our dashboard ATS/HRIS and so I clicked on my first day buddies name just for fun.

I was able to see her entire employee file..even her address. I was really freaked out and I went to another profile and the same thing happened, I was able to see this person's emergency contact. Is this fucking normal? Should I say something and will I get in trouble for looking at a colleagues file?

A partner I work for keeps asking for ETA's on assignments I have already submitted to the senior associate on the deal for review. Does it sound like I'm throwing the senior associate under the bus if I say I have already submitted to senior associate and am waiting for feedback? I feel like the partner will get upset at me even more if my answer sounds like I haven't submitted the assignment to the senior associate yet.

Has anyone else ever dated a coworker?

My boss has video on every single meeting. Status? On. IR? On. Not presenting and just there to chill? On. Even when no one else has it on and knowing it’ll just be his face taking up the whole screen. I’m starting to think he just likes to think we all love staring at him.

My colleagues are bullying me for being gay. I thought that was against the law. Should I talk to a lawyer?

I have a partner who routinely ignores emails or responds to them several weeks later. He has to approve every single document sent to the client or the court, which means you have a physically go to his office to ask him to review something. Half of the time you go to meet with him in person, he’s either on a call or otherwise busy. I find that this basically creates more work and makes meeting deadlines extremely difficult. Is this normal?

I think I’m about to get my first experience of getting in trouble with a partner for work that I actually already sent for review and followed up on multiple times (and brought up during calls). Stay tuned… 😑

I think non-inclusive teams aren't revenue-efficient, but also aren't morally bad. Most just want to live in their bubble and not have their lives disrupted. If people want coworkers to talk football or cricket or fashion or LGBTQ+ rights with, that's entirely their prerogative. Companies and teams aren't just money printers, but also communities. You can't expect to fit into all communities.

I know cases rarely make it to trial anymore, but I’d like to develop my skills as much as possible to position myself well when they do. What’s the norm as far as bonuses to first years, particularly in V20 firms? Everyone seems to be happy with my work, a well respected partner is “impressed,” but there’s no way I’ll hit bonus hours. I’ve done some pro bono but just was not given much work the first few months and still am not swamped, which I am enjoying. I’ve heard whispers that all first years get bonuses. I’d assume it depends on the overall market and firm specifically but just wondering if there’s a norm among V20.

Anyone know why they call market paying firms “Biglaw”? Why not “Top Dollar Firms”?

Looking to get out of a firm that does majority insurance defense and into BL commercial lit. Wondering if anyone has successfully done this as a first or second year, and if they have any advice on making the switch?

Im a third year and my current firm isn't bad and I'm pretty comfortable here. Im satisfied most of the time. There is one firm I've been keeping my eyes on because of its similarities to where I currently am (nice people, similar hours, culture).

Im a bit burned out now and I would love to take a long break. I'm hoping I can take a break (2 months) between the transition but is this a good reason to move though? Would you move in my situation? Im sure there will be a signing bonus.

What does it mean if there’s a NEP at the firm who’s been there for a long time (20+ years), but never got promoted to EP? Never held leadership roles too. Does it usually mean EPs does not like the NEP enough to get promoted?

The NEP has a book of business, though no idea how much it brings in.
